Coruscant- Wednesday Fandom time

Between the fight with Mara and worrying about Mara, Jaina hadn't been in the mood to deal with bickering today. She'd come back to the task force office in the Temple determined to get work done. Even the boys had decided to mostly stay clear of her, and Jag, knowing how Jaina worked, made sure to give her all the information he had before checking out for the night, thus ensuring she'd be busy as long as she wanted to be.

She was sitting in front of a display, waiting for the data she'd input to come up with something she could use, and mentally cursing it every time she felt it needed to go faster. Looked like she'd used up her patience with this earlier.

Eric was not, thank God, a pony tonight.

He's also not eaten anyone, which he was far too pleased with himself about.

"Long day?" he guessed, leaning in the doorway.

Jaina made a little 'ugh' sound as a yes, and nodded towards the display. "Mara decided to go after Lumiya. I'm hoping if I can get an idea of where Alema is, they'll be close enough that I can just so happen to provide backup."

Eric's mind whirled with the names. "Mara's your aunt, Alema's the Dark Jedi you've been following, and Lumiya is the Sith, right?"

She nodded. "Good memory. We know Lumiya and Alema are connected somehow, probably working together, and if Mara's going to be stubborn and not let me come along, then I just need technology to work with me."

It wouldn't.

"Not let you?" Eric repeated, looking slightly confused by the concept. "Is this a hierarchy thing?"

"She wants to take her down alone. It's easier and less of a time-waster to come back and get the information I need to get over there than it is to wait for her to agree with me," she explained.

"You couldn't just follow her and lie?" Eric asked.

[solo_sword]

"Without knowing where she's headed, she has too big a head start," she replied. "And this way I'm obeying the chain of command. Jag even made sure I have all his updated info so it'll be easier to find things out."

"She's a capable warrior, too, right?" Eric asked. Seeing Jaina this focused was a new thing to him.

"She's a former assassin and current Jedi Master. But I don't want her facing off with a Sith alone," she said. "And before you say anything, no, I'm not overreacting."

Eric's forehead wrinkled. "Is this something you were warned about by other members of your family?" he wondered. "You seem...tense."

"I get like this," Jaina said. "It might be something I've been warned about, but I'm not sure. Either way, it doesn't feel right to me."

"Can I help or do you want me to go bother Jag and stay out of your hair?" he asked.

[solo_sword]

Jaina managed a little smile. "Keep me company while the data processes," she said. "Besides, I think Jag's unofficially done for the night."

Eric sat down and stretched his long (but thankfully only two) legs out in front of him. "How long will it take?"

"However long it needs to configure two people's last known coordinates with travel patterns, taking into account habitable planets and space stations and the time it takes to get there," she said. "So, in a galaxy this big... a while."

"Want to play cards or something while we wait?" Eric suggested. "I won't even suggest strip poker."

[solo_sword]

That was kind of a loss since she was sure he'd be the only one losing clothing, but she was being good these days.

"You mean you want me to take all your money?"

Eric scoffed at her. "Why do you think you'd win?"

[solo_sword]

"Because it's what I do, are you new?" she said, glancing at the display to make sure she wasn't cutting into valuable planning time by maybe untensing a bit.

"You're a professional poker player?" Eric teased.

[solo_sword]

"I've got some skills," she said vaguely. "Ask Jag about learning this the hard way."

"I'm better than Jag!" Eric proclaimed. "Because I'm taller."

And tall people were better at poker. It was fact.

"And how does your height have anything to do with it?" she asked.

"It just does," Eric declared.
