Room 313, bright and early Monday morning

Jaina didn't have classes on Monday. She hadn't had any trouble sleeping. There hadn't been any great Fandom call to arms, even. And yet she was awake, because she wasn't sure how serious "bright and early" was.

She got ready as quietly as possible, then decided the best place to wait was back on her bed. Not sleeping, really. Or at least she was definitely awake enough to hear a knock.

She knew too many morning people.

John stood outside Jaina’s door, rapping softly and hoping she hadn’t forgotten their plans. He steeled himself for possible roommate anger at the early morning knocking.

That was a knock. Jaina sat up, trying to shake off any residual sleepiness, and went to open the door. There was running this early in the morning, and then there was John, and one of those things was definitely more appealing, and thusly could actually get her moving.

"If you'd slept in, I would have had to hurt you," she greeted him with a little smile.

He smiled when she opened the door, glad she was already awake as he wasn't sure he was ready to be the guy standing in the hall knocking until the whole floor woke up.

"Now I'm really glad I didn't sleep in."

"Hi," she said, stepping into the hall and closing the door to keep the voices in the hall where they belonged. "Out of curiosity, how long have you actually been awake?"

"Half an hour or so?" he estimated. "Long enough to brush my teeth and change my clothes. What about you? Have I kept you waiting long?"

"Twenty minutes?" That was about all it took her to get ready, too, with the added ten seconds of pulling her hair back into a braid. "Okay, then I don't feel so unevenly matched now."

"Worried that I would take longer than you getting ready?" he teased because yeah, he'd stopped to fix his hair.

And don't think she didn't glance up at it. "I was thinking more in the alertness department, but now I have the answer to both questions."

"I'm glad I was able to satisfy your curiosity." He nodded toward the stairs. "Ready to face the morning heat?"

"I am raring to go," she nodded, starting off. "A lttle heat never hurt anybody. Well, except when it does."

"Like when it burns people," he said, walking down the hall. "The bad side to the whole sunlight thing."

"And all the heat exhaustion. Maybe I'm getting old, if I can actually come up with reasons it's bad to go outside..." she joked.

"Ah, but we're going out into the shady Preserve," John reasoned. "I'm sure it'll be much cooler there. And I have water." Which he did. It was in a bottle.

"You came prepared," she said. "I definitely approve. Especially since I wasn't awake enough to think of that."

"No worries, I brought enough to share," he informed her.

"You know, you seem frequently surprised that I am prepared."

"I think I'm used to being in situations where if you have a weapon, you're prepared, and you'll find the rest later," Jaina mused. "I'll stop generalizing someday, I promise."

"Yeah, my everyday stuff sorta tends not to require the need to arm myself," he considered. "Water I seem to need on a daily basis. A gun? Not so much."

"My life's probably a little adventurous by Fandom standards," she admitted. "I still don't feel right not having my lightsaber with me most of the time."

"Lightsaber?" John didn't think he knew what that was.

"It's a sword with an energy blade instead of metal," she supplied. And those metal ones were heavy.

"You have an energy sword?" He really couldn't be more excited. "Did you bring it with you?"

She nodded. "I've brought it out a few times for drills and dinosaur-fighting, but they make me keep it in the weapons locker. I can show it to you sometime," she offered.

"That would be cool," John grinned. "I bet you had a good time fighting the dinosaurs."

"Mostly," she said, because having to take her uncle to the clinic still wasn't on the list of things she wanted to do again. "It was definitely a learning experience. Did you get to fight at all?"

"Well, there was running and allergies, but nothing you would consider fighting," he admitted reluctantly.
