Room 313- Wednesday night

There was a system to how Jaina got back from trips home. First thing she did after getting in the door was to drop her bag and find the little clock on her desk that told her what day it was. For two weeks at home, she'd only missed two days here, which wouldn't be a bad thing if she wasn't counting down to graduation. Normally then she'd start unpacking, but today she was bucking tradition and checking her phone again. Still no message from John. She expected to be hearing from him any day now, but talking to Ronon had told her that maybe it'd take a little bit longer than the ETA she'd been given to begin with.

Leaving her bag where it was for now, Jaina instead went to lay down for a minute. She was healing up after her concussion and felt fine, but unpacking, meh.

"Not specifically. I've been researching some of the bigger crime syndicates and wannabe warlords, so I'd like to go after some of them if possible, but I need more intel first." Not that she'd thought about this or anything.

"What are the rest of the Jedi focused on right now?" Ben replied, then smiled. "I don't exactly remember much."

[solo_sword]

"Yeah, I doubt you're getting invited to meetings yet," she said dryly. "Same basic idea. There are only about fifty of us right now, so those that are around, aren't serving on the Council or helping with the reconstruction of the Academy are pairing off to do the sort of thing I've been doing. Do what good we can, reassert ourselves, then it's off to somewhere else to do the same thing."

"Weren't you wielding a lightsaber as a toddler?" he teased. "But tell Dad that I'd appreciate you getting to go on missions where you don't get shot at."

He was pretty sure those didn't exist for Jedi.

That was Jacen, but she wasn't going to point that out to him. "Take away my fun."

"You want more really interesting scars to explain?" Ben replied. "I can give you some of mine."

Because it worked like that.

"If it worked like that, I'd be up for it." Because he needed less, seriously. "But as it doesn't, I'll stick to not explaining the ones no one gets to see."

"Did you add any new ones recently?" Ben said, straining for casual.

[solo_sword]

She stuck out her arm and rolled up her sleeve just enough to see the little circular scar on her forearm. "That's where I had the Supreme Overlord jab me with his fang."

And that was it. For as much as she did, she didn't rack up a lot of scars. Even the cut on her forehead was easily hidden by her hair, and was healing up so she doubted there'd even be a mark within a week.

Ben examined it closely and nodded. "I recognize it," he said quietly, "but my Jaina never told me where it came from."

"It's not a huge deal, and no one really notices it," she said, shrugging. "I've been lucky on that front."

"It came from the Supreme Overlord," Ben said, giving her a look. "It's kind of a big deal if you know who that is."

[solo_sword]

"He dropped down on me and bit me," Jaina said. "It wasn't exactly a real fight and then I was out of the rest of it, so I don't really mention it much."

Ben knew he shouldn't, but he giggled anyway. "He bit you?"

[solo_sword]

"How do you think you pierce someone with a fang?" she asked. "It was huge, by the way, I'm not losing cred for this."

"I don't know," Ben said, still giggling. "He tripped and fell or something? Was he trying to be a vampire?"

[solo_sword]

"I think traditionally vampires don't go for the arms," Jaina pointed out. "I got injected with some venom. You know Professor Atreides' class where we got paralyzed and painted blue? It was sort of like that."

"But with teeth," Ben said. "The Yuuzhan Vong were strange."

[solo_sword]

"He was so toxic he ended up dissolving in his own fluids," Jaina said, pretty obviously grossed out. "You're lucky you missed most of that."

"Ewwwwwwwwwww," Ben said, looking grossed out too.

[solo_sword]

"I'm glad that's over," she admitted. Seeing that wasn't even the grossest thing she'd seen or done. Maybe it was crawling through the ashes of thousands of cremated Vong in order to get to Anakin's body, or walking in on an entire platoon of Vong dead on Ebaq 9, or the voxyn alone...

Yeah, the Vong were weird.

"Ew," Ben added again. "Let's stick with nice normal beings who shoot at us."

Beat.

"That's only normal for us, huh."

[solo_sword]

"Not here. Look at it that way," she suggested.

[momslilassassin]

"I wonder if I'm losing my touch by being here so long," Ben admitted. "Is that why you go home so often?"

[solo_sword]

"Partly," Jaina said honestly. "I start feeling detached if I don't go back every so often. Plus, I'm the Sword of the Jedi. I'm not needed here. Back home, that's another story. It keeps things in perspective."
