Room 313, Tuesday night

The last couple of days had left Jaina with a lot to think about, which of course meant she didn't want to. Instead, she'd spent her time after leaving her grandfather's office in the flight simulator, going over a couple of the newer sim programs she'd gotten a hold of and focusing on that for a while.

And then when she'd been in there long enough, she'd gotten it into her head to call Colonel Darklighter when she got back to her room. It wasn't that she was trying to run away or anything like that, but it was in the back of her head that she'd been cleared for reentrance into the Rogues for a month now, and it had been longer than that back home. She had things that were causing her issues, and this was one she could do something about just by sort of poking her CO, and that would make her feel better in general.

Except that she ended up having to leave a message, and there went that. Jaina kind of figured she might want to just write this week off.

Sitting cross-legged on her bed, she frowned at the comlink before tossing it aside. "Come in," she called.

"Hey, you," Luke said with a small smile. "Thought I should check in."

"Long week," said Jaina, and that was bad when it was Tuesday. "You?"

"About the same," he said, pulling up a seat. "You go first."

"Spent the weekend as my double, which had my boyfriend thinking he'd cheated on me, I've got a list of people to apologize to because of it and my first hangover wasn't even my own," Jaina said. "And there's... it's just been a long week."

Luke moved to sit next to her and nudged her shoulder. "I had to call Dad to bail me out of jail after I accidentally kidnapped someone who'd turned into Padmé," he offered.

"Yeah, you win," Jaina said easily.

Luke let his head droop against hers for a second before sitting up straight again. "You're okay?" he checked quietly. "You seem kind of troubled."

There was a slight pause.

"Yeah. It's not important." And she'd keep telling herself that until she believed it, yes. "We're not done with you yet. You okay?"

"A little humiliated," he admitted, "and a lot guilty."

His eyes met hers. "When your thing becomes important, you'll tell me?"

She sighed a little. Maybe if she gave a vague version she could stop thinking about it. "It's just me being stupid about something going exactly the way I should have known it would. I'm okay."

She didn't seem okay.

Another nudge to her shoulder. "You're sure? I'm good at hugs..."

She wasn't turning it down, which was why she was turning to hug him.

Luke held on tightly, rubbing her back. "It'll be fine."

"I know," she said, squeezing gently before letting go of him. "Thanks."

"It's what I'm here for," he said, giving her a smile. "Lots of hugs, no questions asked."

"Part of the uncle code, I think," she smiled back. "And I'm grateful."

His smile got bigger. "I'm glad I'm doing this right, then."

"You've got nothing to worry about. So," she said, "feeling back to normal yet?"

"I spent some time tonight flinging cheese at the moon, so...no," he said with a chuckle. "Z said Hate the Moon Day is traditional for her."

Jaina didn't bother trying to hide the confusion. "Hate the Moon Day?"

Luke nodded. "It was where some evil villain used to live in Z's dimension and attack the Earth."

"And so there's a day set aside to throw cheese at the moon from here?" she said slowly. "Is it powered to actually reach the moon, because physics don't work like that."

"Not even close," Luke said. "We had slingshots."

"I'm just not going to understand any of this, am I?" she asked.

"I know that I didn't try to," Luke replied. "There wasn't even alcohol involved."

"That would have made more sense, yes," she nodded. "And it wasn't an act of Fandom weirdness?"

"Just regular weirdness," Luke said with a chuckle.

With that new take on it, she said, "I think I like that sort of weirdness."

Luke grinned. "Me too. Think we could invent a holiday and get people to believe it?"

"Oh, I have no doubt about that. We have what, four people here from our universe and everyone else is clueless? I think the odds are pretty good."

Luke laughed. "Think we could convince Gavin it's a real holiday too?"

"He's a bit sheltered. I'd think so," she said. Eh, he didn't answer her call back in her universe. She could go for it and not feel bad.

"What would we be celebrating in your time period? New Republic Day's a given," he said. "Is Mon Mothma's birthday a thing?"

"Not unless they've changed something while I've been gone," she said, thinking. She honestly hadn't been paying attention to this sort of thing lately.

"Think we could convince him?"

"Yes," she said simply. She almost brought up the question of whether they should, and then she didn't.

Luke grinned wickedly. There was a little of his father in him after all.

Jaina laughed. "I never would have thought you'd be the one to suggest this," she admitted.

"Sometimes I get bored," he admitted.

"Remind me to be a little more wary of what you tell me from now on," she teased.
