The Imperial Palace- Bastion- Saturday

If Jaina had had her way, Dax and Daniel would have had something simple for their first birthday. Unfortunately, everything these days had to be a kriffing event run through committee, and there had been talk of how people were going to want to see holos of the boys, and how it really would help shore up support for them, all things considering. Jaina had argued probably more than she needed to, but the important thing was, she got her way on this one.

It was still bigger than she wanted, and there were too many people "from work," but she also hadn't had to put up any of the decorations and there were people actually hired to take them down. And really, it was nowhere near the levels that Anakin and Deadpool had competed to back in the day. The family was still there, and she was spending most of her time watching the boys to make sure that if they were going to have the time of their lives attempting to run around until they fell over (it was not going well!), that they didn't fall over into anything that would require a doctor.

Still, next year she was insisting on simple.

Anakin--still with all of his hair, thank goodness, though dressed in Earth clothing in order to Not Look Quite Right--arrived.

"You need a pony ride and a bounce house and a balloon person," he decided.

For one-year olds who didn't care. Okay, Anakin.

"You'd need two of each so they don't fight, and that would just be ridiculous," Jaina smiled.

"As a great grandfather," Anakin made a face at that title and quickly moved on, "I think at least two would be just fine."

[solo_sword]

"You're throwing the next one, then," she teased. "Glad you could make it."

[sith_happened]

"Looking forward to it," Anakin said just as he got bowled over from behind by an excited Juliet. "DAD!"

"Hi there!" he said. "Have you grown a meter since you left or a meter and a half?"

[solo_sword]

"I feel attacked," said tiny, tiny Jaina with a frown.

[sith_happened]

"I'm almost as tall as Jaina," Juliet made up.

"Not just yet, kiddo," Anakin said, hugging her. "Having fun here? Learning a lot from Tenel Ka?"

[solo_sword]

"I'm sure pretty soon she'll be able to school you in palace intrigue," Jaina said, and it was hard to tell if that was teasing or a genuine compliment.

Anakin looked pleased to hear that. "Good. Someone smart has to get into politics on Earth and it's never going to be me."

[solo_sword]

"Why would you wish that on her," Jaina said.

No, Juliet. No.

[sith_happened]

"Given the vast stupidity on the planet right now, she could consolidate her rule in a week and a half."

Anakin, no.

[solo_sword]

"Juliet, no," Jaina said, cutting out the middleman and narrative.

[sith_happened]

"She'd be great at it!" Anakin said. "Rory would probably have a fit, though."

[solo_sword]

"Also there's too many of us in politics anyway and none of us want it," pointed out the woman whose kids were going to be stuck with it.

"True," Anakin said, "but better than the ones who want it and turn out to be terrible people?"

[solo_sword]

"Aaaand that's how I became an empress," Jaina said. Sigh.

Anakin grinned. "At least you're good at it?"

And not actively evil?

[solo_sword]

"Ehhh. Jag does the real stuff," she told him. "I speak up when somebody's being dumb and otherwise do Jedi stuff instead. I'm not sure that's good at it."

[sith_happened]

"You've mastered the art of delegation," Anakin said loyally.

[solo_sword]

"I love and appreciate that, thank you," Jaina grinned.

[sith_happened]

"You're very welcome," Anakin said. "How are the boys doing?"

[tatooine_doofus]

"Happy birthday, kids!" Luke said, beaming at the boys before glancing around to see if there were other hims there yet.

Daniel looked over at that, made some kind of noise that was probably a word in baby, and promptly fell over, looking confused about it.

"I think that means hello," Jaina said.

There'd also be a Luke... somewhere probably not where Jag was.

"Gravity's pretty tough, huh, kid?" Luke said, sitting down on the ground next to Daniel.

"They do a lot of that these days," Jaina said. "We're all pretty immune to it, I think."

[tatooine_doofus]

"Tip over?" Luke said, laughing. "Winter follows you around so closely I hardly see it."

[solo_sword]

"Wait, really?" she asked. "How are we supposed to get in trouble then?"

[tatooine_doofus]

"You're not supposed to," Luke said. "I'm sure you and Jacen are working around that slight hiccup as we speak."

[solo_sword]

"We'd better be. I actually gave Sia tips from when I was a kid to get out and get around the whole princessing thing," she admitted, and paused. "More and more I realize I deserve whatever I get with these two."

[tatooine_doofus]

Luke burst out laughing. "Probably true."

[solo_sword]

Jaina sighed, and shrugged, because really, what did you do about that?

"So how are things with you these days?"

[tatooine_doofus]

"Good," Luke said. "Turns out that rebuilding an entire government takes a lot of work."

[solo_sword]

"Yeah, that's... a thing," Jaina said vaguely, having been through that a few times, and restructuring one now. "A lot of red tape and not enough resources?"

[tatooine_doofus]

"Exactly," Luke said. "Pretty sure your mom is two meetings away from physically cracking heads together."
