The Fountain Palace- Hapes- Monday
In the aftermath of the Sith attack, Tenel Ka had closed things in tightly around the Fountain Palace, and Allana especially. The girl was under constant guard and bristling about it, and after talking to her about it for a while this morning, Jaina made her way back to Tenel Ka's quarters.
"You've looked better," Tenel Ka greeted her, not without concern.
"It's fine. Not even worthy of bacta," Jaina said, brushing that off. She'd certainly had less bruised birthdays, but she was alive for this one, so she was calling it a win.
Tenel Ka nodded, knowing better than to push. She'd had twenty-something years to have learned that Jaina was a crazy person with weird limits. "I must thank you for what you did for Allana. If she couldn't be with me through that, I'm glad she was with you."
"Me, too. Though she seemed to know exactly what to do in a case like this," Jaina said. "She deserves a lot of credit."
"We've known this was coming for years," Tenel Ka said, nodding towards the sofas and gesturing for her to sit. They did. "We're no strangers to attempts on her life from different groups. Sith, however…"
"Nothing like large group of dark side Force users in a place where the population even inside the palace isn't keen on Jedi?" Jaina supplied.
"Yes, that."
Jaina leaned forward in her seat a little. "I kind of wanted to talk to you about that, actually."
Tenel Ka's face was impassive. "Oh?"
"How open would you be to Allana starting formal training?"
The expression didn't change. "Her situation on Bastion would essentially be the same as it would on Hapes."
"Not exactly. She'd have Masters around her for protection, and she'd get to learn," Jaina said. "This isn't about her being on Bastion, though I'd love to have her around. She could go to Shedu Maad, or Ossus, or Coruscant. But another attack will come, whether it's two days from now or two years."
Tenel Ka was quiet as she considered this. "Has this come up before?" she asked, and Jaina recognized that curiosity over what your child said to other people when you weren't around.
"Not specifically. She's made a couple comments about wanting more than a practice lightsaber," Jaina shrugged. "But more than anything, what I saw in her today was frustration."
"She does not like being protected," Tenel Ka conceded.
"She is your daughter," Jaina smiled. "I'm not going to try and talk you into it, it's just maybe something to talk to her about."
"Mm," Tenel Ka said, and finally nodded. "The decision will be up to her, if she chooses to make it now."
"Okay. Good," Jaina said, and asked, "How are you doing with all this?"
For as careful as Tenel Ka's answers had been so far, this one was immediate. "I'd have been perfectly fine with it if in the last several years you'd taken Vestara Khai's head off."
