Outside Adorable Panda, way early Sunday morning

Jaina had decided she didn't like the cabins anymore for privacy reasons. This time, though, it was for reasons a little different than not being able to get private time with her boyfriend. Namely, she tended to have nightmares more often than not lately, and even if she didn't always remember them it was something she didn't really want to share with her cabinmates. She'd stayed awake as long as possible till exhaustion finally took over, and then unsurprisingly jerked awake far too early and really hoped it'd been the sort of nightmare that didn't get anyone coming over to ask if she was okay.

When she'd calmed down, she decided she really didn't want to go back to sleep anyway and got out of bed as quietly as she could. She didn't even bother with shoes as she headed outside to sit on the front steps of the cabin, figuring that anything creepy and crawly that got close enough to be a danger deserved any zapping it got. She was half focused on looking for any critters, and half just wishing the sun would hurry up and rise already.

"Good goal for sunrise o'clock," she decided.

"It's weird having a free day, but I think I like it." He'd worked rather hard to keep himself busy the last few weeks. "You ready to get back to classes tomorrow?"

"No," Jaina said immediately. "It's Destiny class, too. There are certain things I'd really rather not have to think about right now, and that'll be it."

"Yeah, that could suck," John hadn't realized that. "Last week was all god equals math so hopefully this week'll be something equally tame or we can skip. I'm good at skipping."

"I need to go," she said, shaking her head. "I just wish her classes weren't a precursor to my real life."

"Did you learn something about your destiny?" John wondered.

[solo_sword]

Jaina paused. "There's been a lot of debate the last couple years about what the Jedi are supposed to be and what our way actually is. I think Anakin was close to figuring it out," she said. "And I think part of why Kyp fought so hard for me was because he thought that without Anakin, I was supposed to be that person. I know now that I'm just not."

John wasn't sure if his input was wanted, but he had to try. "Is it wrong that I don't see that as a bad thing? I mean, yes, it's awful Anakin didn't get the chance to figure it out, but maybe that means he really wasn't meant to. Maybe there's someone else and even if it's not you, at least you know what you're not and that's more than a lot of people know."

"Not at all. I don't think I would have wanted that for myself anyway. Until Hapes, I never had to care all that much," she confessed. "And I don't think I should be the example anyone should be following."

"I'd hate to see what people following me would look like," John said. "But you'd set a good example. I don't think you give your experience credit."

"Oh, yeah. Let's all follow the newly-redeemed Jedi," she said wryly. "There are much better people for that."

He wasn't going to point out that as a squadron leader, she was gonna have followers. "Who do you vote for to lead then?"

"I don't know," she said. "Someone else. Maybe they just haven't shown themselves yet. It's just not me."

"So Destiny class shouldn't be all bad," he decided. "If you want, you can help come up with my destiny."

"I don't think it's that easy," she said gently. "Would you really want to know it?"

"It can be," John said. "And you know, the more I think about it, the more tempted I am."

"Tempted to do what?" she frowned.

"Find out," he replied.

The frown was still there. "Do you have a way to do that?"

"Well, yes. Maybe." He wasn't positive, but John knew he could be persuasive if he wanted to be.

Yes, she was suspicious. "Tell me."

"That guy," John said. "Your teacher. I saw him at the gym and he seriously knows stuff." It was just a matter of whether he was going to share.

"What if you don't like what he has to say?" Jaina wondered.

John shrugged. "Then I hope I have some control over changing it."

"Why do you want to know that badly?" Maybe it was just because of the time she'd had, but she couldn't imagine knowing.
