George Washington Masonic Memorial- Alexandria, VA- Saturday night

Sometime after the cheer had been had and people had been appropriately soaked, there was a trip into Alexandria, and specifically a little monument. Which, yes, Jaina found pretty cool, even if she's used to seeing monuments. It wasn't stuck on top of another monument, to begin with. That automatically put it in the plus category.

"This is pretty impressive," she admitted. "And I'm not even entirely sure what it is."

"Is this something you're going to hold over my head often?" John inquired.

"I haven't decided. I know I have the option, and nothing embarrassing has happened to me yet, though..."

"Though what?" John was thankful she hadn't seen him with the pink glitter hair.

"Though if and when it does, I figure you'd probably be lording that over me, too."

John grinned, "If the opportunity arises, I'm sure I'd be totally understanding and not say a single thing." He was such a bad liar.

"Perfect, very silent gentleman, huh?" she said, pretty clearly not believing a single word.

"I've got references and everything," John assured her.

She had no idea why that amused her as much as it did. "They aren't related to you, are they? Because that calls them into question," Jaina said.

"Hmm, then we'll have to strike the references," John replied. "But I assure you I'm a perfect gentleman."

"You've been good so far, I'll give you that," she conceded.

"I guess the only way to know for sure is to wait see what happens when you turn into a cute furball of some kind," John accepted. "I think you'd be a great kitten."

"A kitten?" she repeated, raising her eyebrows. "Is it a rule I have to be a furball?"

"Would you rather be an aardvark? Or a salamander?" he asked, waggling his eyebrows back at her.

"Okay, got me there," Jaina said. She had no idea what an aardvark was but it didn't sound pleasant. "Why a kitten?"

"Well, kittens are cute," John started, trying to explain his initial reasoning. "But they have sharp claws and teeth if anyone messes with them."

She had to smile at that. Just had to. "Nice answer. I'm impressed."

"I'm glad you approve," John smiled back.

"So do you think you want to stick around for a while, or are we ready to head back?" she asked, suddenly realizing she had no idea how long they'd been there.

Time had flown for John. "Unfortunately, I have to be up early for more cheertastic events," John informed her sadly. "I guess we'd better be getting back."

"Yeah," she said, about matching his tone. "I've had fun."

"Me too," he said much less gravely. "Think we can do it again sometime?"

"I think you can count on it," she smiled.

"That takes a lot of the pressure off," John told her. "Since I can count on doing this again, you should be counting on hearing from me."

"My comlink will be my best friend until then," she promised, and did a pretty good job of serious.
