Room 527, Wednesday evening

Jaina had mellowed out a lot since yesterday, and she was very glad for it. She'd simply decided that overall, it was a bad few weeks, between zombies, having to say goodbye to the kids that she'd loved, and knowing she only had a couple weeks left with her boyfriend here. This was just one more thing. One more thing that made her head hurt a lot.

The problem with deciding you were just going to deal with something was that Fandom was a complete bitch.

Which was why when Jaina was simply getting up to go get herself a glass of water, she suddenly found herself at floor level once again, meowing her displeasure as she tried to find her way out from under her clothes.

[ETA: OH AND FOR THE KITTENSITTER.]

Really, that wasn't how he'd expected the evening to go. "I thought I was the one transforming this week?" John asked, moving to find the kitten in the pile of clothes.

"You're crying for your data pad, aren't you?" John sighed, going to scoop her up. "I don't think your claws are going to make it very easy to work." Besides, he'd find one of those paper towel rolls and entertain her for hours later.

"Hey, before you have a kitty panic attack let's work on keeping your claws tucked back when I'm holding you," he reminded her, petting a finger over the stripe of fuzzy fur between her ears.

"Good girl," he said, scritching her ears. "Last thing I need are claw marks all over. I'd have to tell people about my abusive cat girlfriend."

He was having a difficult time not snickering at her for sounding like a tiny motor boat as he walked back to the bed and sat down to get some reading in.

"I know better than to try to do anything without letting you get comfy first," John told her, releasing his hold but petting over her back.

"Of course you'd pick my pillow," he murmured, shaking his head and grabbing up his book from the floor. "Can I interest you in a piece of string?" He was only half kidding.

He didn't exactly have a string, just one of those cheap bookmarks with an incredibly manly tassel that he could dangle in front of her with one hand while he held the book in the other.

Which was when the tassel slowed and lifted higher.

Yeah, he just wanted to see her jump up on her back paws and attack. It was adorable.

Chuckling lightly, John let her grab hold of the tassel once but as soon as her grip loosened it was up in the air again, whipping side to side to keep her entertained.

No, he wasn't really reading.
