Room 313, Saturday late afternoon

Jaina had gone for a run, figured out she didn't actually remember the course she'd done with John because she'd been distracted pretty much the whole time, and created her own. She'd been gone long enough that by the time she got back to the room, she was more than happy to shower and change, and sit down with a datapad for a while like she'd been lazy all day.

"Oh," she said, accepting that. That she had heard of once or twice. "Okay." And the Tell her I said hi when you talk to her that came to mind still wasn't appropriate.

Jaina gaped. "He... How do you forget to turn the circuit off?"

Luke rolled his eyes. "Exactly," he grumbled. "I'm not sure if I should be offering to help him or not. He seems to think this is how repairs are supposed to work: you know, with everyone going to the clinic."

"Maybe he just has a really twisted view on teaching safety?" she suggested. "I hope that's all it is."

"Me too," Luke said, "or it's going to be a very long semester." He found a comfortable spot on the floor and sprawled out. "What are you working on?" he asked, gesturing at the parts spread around.

"This? Oh, that's mostly just spare parts. I keep them around in case I get bored or need them for something," she said. "I've been working on a hoverboard, but I haven't found time to test it out yet."

Luke's eyes lit up. "How fast can it go, at least in theory?" he asked eagerly.

"Not sure yet. Part of the testing includes whether or not a person can actually stand on it and what kind of restraints are needed if they can't. And then I can adjust the settings and add parts," she said. "By half the shows on the TV, this planet's big on lawsuits. I'm being at least a little careful."

Luke nodded. "Being sued would be bad," he said, "and not just because your father might laugh himself to death. I'd be more than happy to serve as a test pilot after you're done with it." He grinned. "Family probably can't sue."

"I think we'd also have trouble explaining the differences between our realities, or why my mother's twin brother is barely older than me. It'd be much more trouble than it's worth," Jaina grinned. "Thanks. I'll take you up on that."

"Happy to help," Luke replied with a genuine smile. "How are you doing? Happy?"

"More or less," she said honestly. "I still miss everyone back home, and would like to be helping more, but I really can't complain about being here. I don't know why that's still a surprise."

"I've discovered that it doesn't do anything to push against the will of the Force," Luke said. "It just wastes your own energy."

"I've never really thought of being here as the will of the Force," Jaina admitted. "I kind of like this one being my decision."

Luke gave her a maddeningly smirky smile. "If you prefer to think of it like that."

Jaina raised an eyebrow at him. "If it's my delusion, then it's my delusion and I'm planning on clinging to it for a while."

Luke flicked his fingers out soothingly. "I'm not trying to stop you, and it's not a delusion," he said quietly. "And I'd certainly miss you if you went home."

"Thanks," she said with a little smile, and shrugged. "It's nothing I'm planning on at the moment. I'm learning a lot here, and I think it can really help me there. So as long as that keeps up..."

Luke nodded. "If you need a sparring partner, let me know," he said. "I'd hate for your lightsaber work to get rusty."

"I'd like that, actually," she said. "I've been practicing with the remote, but it's not the same thing."

Luke flashed her a bright smile. "It'd be nice to actually feel competent with the weapon again," he said. "Turns out that he was really, really holding back on the Death Star. I don't think I've made him break a sweat yet. It gets irritating."

"Having been in Flight and Flying, it doesn't surprise me to hear that," she said. "I never did manage to beat him."

Luke made a face. "It'd probably ruin his entire outlook on the universe, having someone be better at him at anything."

"Of course, there's nothing bad in learning from the best," Jaina said. She couldn't help but wonder how good a swordsman this Luke would someday be, either. He'd been the best before.

Luke thought about it for a moment, then let go of his resentment and nodded. "But I'd like to spar for the pleasure of it again," he admitted.
