Room 313- Wednesday night

There was a system to how Jaina got back from trips home. First thing she did after getting in the door was to drop her bag and find the little clock on her desk that told her what day it was. For two weeks at home, she'd only missed two days here, which wouldn't be a bad thing if she wasn't counting down to graduation. Normally then she'd start unpacking, but today she was bucking tradition and checking her phone again. Still no message from John. She expected to be hearing from him any day now, but talking to Ronon had told her that maybe it'd take a little bit longer than the ETA she'd been given to begin with.

Leaving her bag where it was for now, Jaina instead went to lay down for a minute. She was healing up after her concussion and felt fine, but unpacking, meh.

You could kind of say Tahiri was making the rounds tonight.

She felt a little bad about this when Jaina had just gotten back (yes, she'd been keeping track), but . . .

"Hey, Jaina?" she called through the open door.

"Hey," she said, sitting up again. "Come on in."

"Hey," Tahiri returned, inching into the room to lean against the doorframe. "Well, you're still all in one piece, I see."

[solo_sword]

It was so weird to see someone else leaning against that doorframe. "Not for a lack of trying, but I made it back," she said with a little smile. She was just glad she won this one. Totally worth the injury. "How's it been going here?"

"Oh, the usual," Tahiri replied with a crooked little grin. "Jaina, I know you're an overachiever, but there are some things I'd rather you didn't aspire to."

[solo_sword]

"But I'm so good at it," she teased. "I'm fine. Ignore any frowny faces Ben makes about it." Just to warn her.

"Uh huh. I feel like I should be asking what you did, but now that Leia's here . . ." Tahiri kind of had to sneak that one in there.

[solo_sword]

"Tiny Mom has no bearing on what I do or what I tell people about it," she said, just to get that out there. And because she liked saying 'tiny Mom.'

". . . tiny Mom?" There was no way that giggle wasn't escaping. "I bet you like saying that. Although," she continued because sometimes Tahiri couldn't segue, "I actually came to ask you something."

It was good to hear giggles from Tahiri now and then. It was reassuring. "Sure. What's yup?"

Well, this part might not be so reassuring. Or it might be, depending on how you looked at it.

"Remember how I told you a long time ago that Karla thought she knew how to deal with Riina?"

[solo_sword]

"Yeah," she said, leaning forward a little in interest. "Something change?"

[weetuskenraider]

"Yeah. Me." Tahiri shrugged one shoulder, smiling slightly. "That is, I'm sick of going on like this. I'm going to go through with it, but I'd like you there."

[solo_sword]

"Yeah, definitely," she said, giving her a little smile in return. It made her a little nervous, given what she knew about her own Tahiri, but it was a good sign. "I'm glad you decided to do it."

"Wandering out of the Preserve not remembering the last three days was kind of amusing at first," Tahiri replied, trying for a joke. "But it got boring really fast."

[solo_sword]

Wow. "That bad?" she asked, smile disappearing.

[weetuskenraider]

"Not always?" That was probably not all that reassuring, Tahiri.

[solo_sword]

"It happening once is enough," she said seriously. Though at least this one wasn't cutting.

Oh, no. There was no cutting, thanks.

Tahiri debated not telling her how often it had happened, and decided getting into trouble once for keeping secrets from Jaina was more than enough times. "So it's past time to call a halt to it, right? I'd like you to be there. Just . . ." She shrugged, not really sure how to explain it. "I'd feel better if you were."

[solo_sword]

"I'll be there. Just give me the when and I'm there," she said immediately. Even if she couldn't do much to help, she could at least do that.

Tahiri looked probably ridiculously relieved. "I'll owe you for this, you know," she said, because it was a lot less mortifying than half-incoherent blithering about how relieved she was. That would be embarrassing, and . . . this was Jaina. You just didn't do that. "I'm looking at really soon. In the next couple of days, as soon as I talk to a couple of people."

Asking if Jaina was sure she was okay would be dumb; Tahiri knew how much of a beating she could take. And look, there hadn't even been bacta tanks involved this time, right?

"Okay, just let me know," she said. It'd give her a good reason to focus, actually. "Thanks for the invite." Because it did mean something.
