John was headed back to Colorado tonight, and Jaina was on her way home tomorrow. It'd be nice to just keep him here as long as possible, but duty called. After the dinner last night, today was mostly having some time in.

In front of the TV. Watching curling on the Olympics. The fact that they were actually doing this made Jaina wonder when they became That Couple. Eh. It was nice to act like a normal couple who'd been together for years for the tiny bit that it'd last. The sport itself made a lot more sense given their history, even if she was on her third, "No, really, this is in the Olympics?"

"Because you got tickets. I still have the broom," she remembered. She couldn't remember how curling had come up in the first place, but details.

"Well, I got the tickets for some reason," he said, trying to think way back about this.

He would get there eventually.

"I can say for sure that I, still new to the planet, could not have been the one to first bring it up," Jaina said. She was maybe sure of this. Confident? No.

"Was I teaching you about weird sports?" John wondered. This was back when he did flag football and cheerleading...

"You've taught me about curling, football, cheerleading, and golf." She paused. "All early on. I feel like you maybe have been slacking in the teaching department."

"You can't tell me you've failed to learn about any other sports in three years on this planet?" John asked, shaking his head in disbelief.

"I've been busy," Jaina protested. "And I liked learning better from you anyway." Because learning from him meant him pretending she was doing something wrong in order to invade her personal space, and her being okay with it because she was not an idiot. Oh, yes, she was on to that.

Hey, if she didn't mind and he didn't mind, then they had just been participating in allowable public groping. John was still fine with this concept. "We always had a good time."

It hadn't been groping, really. Save for that time in the pool hall... "We still do. Unless you want me to drag you to a pool hall to remind you."

Those thoughts were unrelated, promise.

"You at the pool hall?" John grinned. "Consider me doing whatever it is that will send us there."

See, he was actively interested in things like groping.

"You say that like you're genuinely interested in playing," she laughed. Though come to think of it, the last couple times they'd gone to play had kind of gone that way.

"I'm genuinely interested in you," John answered. "Does that count for something?"

Still loved hearing that sort of thing. "It definitely counts for something. I'm not sure what that something is..." she said, feigning thoughtfulness.

"When you figure it out, let me know," John suggested, not at all thinking about the crazy that was them attempting this togetherness thing again.

"I think I might have a clue," she said, leaning forward to kiss him lightly.

He approved of her clue and her kiss. "You have successfully distracted me from this game, you know?"

That worked well for her. She was trying to distract herself from the idea that when she let him go later, if he was gone for as long as she thought he might be, he could possibly miss graduation. "I'm sorry, was that more interesting?" she wondered.

"Not at all." He wasn't one to complain when he was potentially returning to the land of no kissing. Well, no allowed kissing.

She wrapped her arms around him, happy for closeness while she could get it. "I wish you didn't have to go yet." Or ever.

John hugged her tightly and smiled. "I know. It'd be nice to just stay with you for a while. For once."

"Not just for once. Maybe a few times after that," she amended.

He rested his cheek on the top of her head. "Maybe I'll stay in Colorado Springs and at least visit more." It would suck not being a part of the expedition, especially given how responsible he felt for things there, but...it was Jaina.

"No you won't," she said, rubbing a hand over his back. "You're going to go where you're most needed, and that's what you should do."

Honestly, not knowing what exactly it was they were doing, it'd probably be easier to agree with him there if she didn't know about Ronon. She could deal with missing him if it meant not screwing someone else over.

It was good she didn't see the concerned face he was making. "Well, whatever happens, you'll be hearing from me this time. Hopefully I'll figure out stuff to tell you that won't get my mail sealed."

"You're a smart guy, you'll figure it out," she said with a little smile. "And if not, then we've got plenty to talk about next visit." Depending on how secret it was.
