Room 313, after classes

Between the end of Parents Weekend (including the meeting she was glad went as well as it did), Fandom finding even more ways to scar her, and other things, Jaina was having a pretty interesting week so far.

Some parts of it (okay, the Parents Weekend parts only), she knew she had to actually update people about, especially since it was official that she wouldn't be going home permanently for a while. Which was why she'd started recording a transmission to her mother before realizing talking about how great her weekend with her dad was might not be such a great idea, and had resumed sitting there and trying to figure out what to say.

"John didn't tell him that much when they first met, and Dad liked him. He didn't so much after he found out that little detail. And the second time I think he was torn between following through on his paternal right to grumble at any boy I date and realizing he had the chance to embarrass me with tales of my childhood in front of said boy."

"So he switched back and forth between the options," Luke guessed.

"Pretty much. He likes John, he'll just be grumbly about it. I bet you anything Jacen and Anakin never get this," she said.

Luke blinked. "Sorry, I thought of the wrong Anakin," he said, then grinned. "Can you imagine that conversation?"

Jaina paused. "Well, it would definitely be the opposite of the treatment I got..."

"There'd be weapons in the clearing at dawn," Luke decided. "It would've been bad."

"I'm just going to be really glad that could never happen in either of our realities," she decided.

"Me too," Luke said, sounding relieved. "Who ever thought going home would make our lives less complicated?"

"They know back home now," Jaina said. "I don't think it's any less complicated. Just weird."

"I can't exactly imagine them flipping over the idea of inviting him home for Boonta Eve," Luke said.

"Probably not. And I don't think he'd go in any case," said Jaina.

"Are you two doing all right?" Luke asked.

She shrugged. "I yelled at him about the hanging-Dad-from-a-wall thing and haven't actually talked to him since," she said. "I will, I think I just want to exercise my right to sulk."

Luke winced at that. "Sorry," he said. "Even if I'm not the one who needs to apologize"

"Don't worry about it. I think a little distance might help me not to jump down his throat if he says anything wrong. I think the weekend helped with that, too."

"When he says something wrong," Luke said, flexing his hand. "I've met the man."

He leaned in close and ruffled Jaina's hair. "I should probably let you get back to doing things much more interesting than our family's history."

Automatically she tried to smooth her hair down again. "I'll see you later, Uncle Luke," she said with a smile.
