Room 527, Sunday night

To be completely honest, Jaina wasn't sure why she was here. Today had been entirely messed up, and suddenly she was agreeing to meet her twenty-years-older apparent ex at his "old" room. She really did want to talk, to find out what was new and how he was, and also because anything else they usually got up to might be considered a felony here at the moment.

Taking a breath, she knocked on the door.

"So tell me more about you," he said, still amazed by how young she looked.

"I really don't have anything interesting to contribute," she assured him.

"Oh come on," he prodded. "I'm sure you have much better stories than mine."

She'd played along with everyone's questions so far, but she didn't want to outright lie and start making things up. Especially not if she had any thought in her head regarding why she didn't get older. "You want the truth?" she asked.

"Only if you're willing to share," he said.

"Fandom weirdness," Jaina admitted, making a face. "I seem to be quite a bit younger than the rest of you. I don't actually have any stories."

John raised an eyebrow, "How much younger?"

"Twenty years?"

"Oh no," John facepalmed. "No wonder you don't look a day over 20."

"Thanks for saying 20 there," she said lightly.

"Well, this is just great," he said a little exasperated. "How could you let me go on about the future? You of all people should know better!"

Jaina blinked in surprise, because that sort of thing hadn't even occurred to her. "But I wasn't..." It took that long to come up with a good excuse. "It's not like I'm messing up any timelines!"

"Well, are you currently, you know...with some young me?" he asked.

Yeah, she was realizing now that this had been stupider than she thought. "So what if I am?"

He raised an eyebrow. "I know I don't need to explain this to you."

She shrugged, though any self-righteous argument she could come up with really wasn't worth it. And also, it was wrong. "You obviously already know what happened, and I'm obviously not there to know. Shoot me for being curious."

"Curiosity I can understand," he said, finding himself wondering where the Jaina from his time had ended up.

"What do you want to hear?" she asked.

"Whatever you want to tell," he said.

"I just like knowing you're doing okay," Jaina said simply.

"I wish you could tell me how you are," John replied.

"Yeah, so do I," she said. Especially since the more she thought about it, the more she didn't want to. "I'm probably commanding a fleet somewhere and just can't be bothered to show."

"That sounds like you," he agreed, thinking it was better than the alternatives. "Or at least the you I knew."

She really didn't want to get maudlin, so she tried to shake it off before it started. "So, yeah, sorry for not telling you sooner."

"Yeah, about that," he said. "I know it's probably unnecessary, but you won't tell, you know, me anything about me, right?"
