MCA #6- early Saturday morning

Jaina was just getting out of bed when she heard the sound of the doorknob to her apartment's front door jiggling, which sounded a lot like an inexperienced lockpick trying to break in. In Fandom, that could mean a lot of different things, though, and her danger sense wasn't going off at all. So she walked into the living room, reaching out with the Force to see if she could tell who was on the other side of the door. While the presence wasn't one she recognized right away, it wasn't unfamiliar, either.

It was also very definitely a kid.

For some reason Jaina couldn't explain, she stood on the other side of the door, folding her arms and waiting to see whether or not they made it in.

The name definitely confirmed who his father was, even if she couldn't see it in his features and in his Force sense, and that was not funny, Fandom. Chak Fel had been Jag's brother, one of three siblings who'd been killed in battle. Jaina had never met him. She and Jag had broken up before she'd ever met his family, and then Chak had died...

Um. So she had a son by an ex-boyfriend who was clearly born long after they broke up. It really was the perfect cap to the week.

"Nice to meet you, too, Chak," she said with a smile. "Is it just you here? Is Daman your brother?"

He started to nod, then stopped abruptly. "Wait. If you don't have us yet, should I be telling you stuff?"

"Have I told you not to?" Jaina wondered. She was currently of the 'go ahead and tell me, I already know half of it' persuasion.

"Nooo, but you say knowing things just adds pressure," he reported.

"So how about this," Jaina began, "I'm okay with knowing now, but only if you feel okay telling me. I'll try not to ask big stuff."

"I can live with that," Chak decided after a moment. "Yeah, he's my brother."

So she had two boys there. It was always interesting to find out details from those other realities, and she was really sorry Daman didn't seem to be here for her to meet him. "Older or younger?"

"He's six. I'm eight, so I look out for him," he said, with no small amount of pride.

Oh, that was cute. Now she was really sorry Daman wasn't here. "So you're the responsible one, huh?"

He shrugged. "I have to take over for Dad someday. I have to start being responsible now. Sometimes." He'd say it sucked, but he always got yelled at when he used that word. Where did she think he learned it?

It was so strange to hear Jag referred to as 'Dad.' Not that she couldn't see him with kids- you didn't date someone for two years without that thought at least crossing your mind- but 'Dad' was a little more relaxed than she'd expect of him.

And then yeah, there was the fact that Jag's older brothers were both dead, he only had two younger siblings left, so he probably was a baron now. And she was probably a baroness. So weird. "You don't sound too okay with that."

Sure. He was talking about being a baron, right.

It wasn't like he hadn't said this to his mom already, so it was okay to say it now, right? "Dad doesn't really like his job. He pretends it's fine, but I can tell. But you guys say it's going to be a long, long, long time before I have to worry, and I should get to be a kid, too."

"Good," Jaina said emphatically. Given how she'd grown up, that sort of thing was important to her when it came to her kids, whether they were hers or not. "Maybe we'll make sure you get some extra kid time in while you're here."

"Like what?" he asked, completely curious.

She didn't actually have an answer prepared. She felt out of practice with kid stuff in Fandom. Maybe if she approached it as trying to think of what Ben would want to do, since he was just a year older right now... and now her brain hurt. "That depends," she said, thinking. "Do you fly yet?"

It was her kid, and Jag's. He was going to end up piloting something or other, it was just a matter of when.

"Yeah!" Chak said excitedly. "I can co-pilot with an adult, and Dad lets me in the simulator if he's around. Can we fly something?"

Of course Jag had a simulator. She didn't know why that even came as a surprise. "I don't have anything we can really fly. You're a little young for a StealthX still. But we could maybe head on over to the flight shed at some point. Though that might be boring if you're used to a sim."

"Are you kidding?" he said, still completely thrilled by the prospect of even fake flying. "I've never been in this one!"

Yes, Jaina liked her kid. "That's definitely my boy," she said, reaching over to ruffle his hair.

Automatically, Chak reached up to readjust his hair so it covered his forehead. "Not the hair..." he complained.

Jaina couldn't help but notice he was really particular with how he fixed it. "Are you hiding something?" she asked, and when he just sighed, she moved her hand to push aside his hair a bit.

Again, it wasn't like his mom didn't know it was there, so he let her move his hair to show the white streak running through it. Though as soon as she'd seen it, he went right back to trying to make sure none of it showed without using a mirror.

"...How do you have that?" Jaina wondered. "It's not supposed to be genetic."

But if Roan and Sia get it, so does everyone.

Chak shrugged, and said self-consciously, "I don't like it. It makes me look eighty."

She raised an eyebrow at a kid whose age was still in the single digits saying that, but she could see why it could make him self-conscious. "Do you think your dad looks eighty?"
