A Village Near Þingvallavatn Lake, Iceland- Tuesday night, 945 AD

Jaina liked when the island traveled. She liked getting out and seeing the new places and the people and how they did things. She traveled all the time back home, but she never got to really see much, and frankly when you were usually chasing after criminals, you weren't in the best areas anyway. So not only did she get to check out someplace new, she got to do so with an actual Viking. One who spoke English, even.

As they headed towards the tavern to meet some of the locals- and possible viewing of barfights- she said, "This is going to be so different with someone who can actually understand the language."

"I can just see that happening, too." Not even a little. "I'm glad I don't have to feel bad about hurting your delicate feelings."

That would not happen, either.

"I might've had to resort to writing very bad poetry in my journal," Eric said, nodding. "Thank you for saving me from that fate."

[solo_sword]

"You have no idea how badly I want to hear what your bad poetry would sound like now," she told him.

"Bad," Eric said.

Having never written a poem in his very, very long life, yes, it would be.

"And here I was hoping you were downplaying a talent." She'd of course still classify all poetry as bad, but.

"It doesn't help me fight or lead, so it's of very little use to me," he said, shrugging.

That sounded very much like her ten years ago. "That sounds like you're not much of a hobby kind of guy."

"I have hobbies! Angry Birds is totally a hobby!"

He seemed almost proud of himself for that.

"I'm not arguing," Jaina laughed. Seriously, the fact that she'd seen him probably more with his phone than without it amused the hell out of her. "Though I'm not sure how Angry Birds helps you fight or lead..."

"Wait until angry birds attack," he said. "I'll totally be ready."

[solo_sword]

"And with that, I pass the jinxing-the-island torch on to you," she said, trying not to laugh too hard at that mental image.

"You've jinxed the island before?" Eric asked.

[solo_sword]

"Several times," she nodded, sobering a little. "I'd say something stupid like 'We haven't been attacked in a while' and then we would, or 'I haven't been gremlin-bitten lately, I'm sure they've forgotten about me' and then get bit... I've accepted the blame, yes." Mostly.

"I think gremlins know better than to bite me," said the stupid vampire who will learn someday not to say things like that.

"Uh huh. Just so you know, when it happens, I want pictures or video or something." She was sure Jessica would help with that.

"They won't come from me," he assured her.

There was a thoughtful pause.

"Or Jessica."

Because he knew how to intimidate baby vampires.

"Well, that's disappointing," Jaina said. "Evidence of the experience is a time-honored tradition." Said someone who was pretty sure all the evidence of her own bites was out of circulation.

"I'm not really much for tradition," Eric declared.

Or at least ones that didn't benefit him.

[solo_sword]

"Spoil my fun." Though that was said with a little smile, since she never expected anyone to say something like 'Sure, I'll make sure to text you as soon as I get bit so you know to expect pictures.' Still, if and when this happened, she'd throw a fit if she missed out.

"I'll risk it," he said, grinning at her. "Are you going to send me texts of you doing insane things wherever you're headed?"

"I can," she said. "Though I think my texts would happen more after the fact, and would involve me telling you about how I didn't die today or how I've gotten really good at escaping captivity lately." Jaina lived a weird life.

Eric didn't look all that surprised to hear what the content would be.

"I get more texts like that than you'd think," he admitted.

And Jaina should have been less surprised, she supposed. Not that she wanted to think too much about why he'd get a lot of those. "Well sure, but mine will be coming from another galaxy," she said teasingly.

"That makes yours much more special," he assured her. "I think Pam's making up half of hers anyway."

"Just trying to keep you wondering?" she guessed.
