Jaina's room- The Arms Hotel- Sunday morning

Jaina saw in a chair in front of the window, gazing out pensively at nothing. She was getting married today, even if that was mostly a secret. It wasn't even that it was her first wedding. This might be the first one that ever ended in a marriage, though.

It had to! If she didn't marry Howard and end up in his will, how was she supposed to kill him and stop him from trying to crush the entire Skywalker empire while simultaneously taking hold of his fortune?

And yet...

No, she couldn't have second thoughts! She couldn't let the fact that Howard loved her derail her plan! She's blame a crisis of conscience but you needed a conscience to have a crisis of it. Even if Charles was back and didn't want her marrying someone less cute than him. Oh, she had so many thoughts!

She was interrupted from her reverie by a knock at the door. Jaina stood, pulled on the little matching robe over her red silk chemise, and went to answer it.

[I am heading to bed, but I had to post this. Obviously someone's at the door. It should be you. Yes, you. And I will answer when I wake up! Go ping.]

"I suppose one might call it a proposition," Lucrezia explained, stepping through the doorway and sailing into the room. "The Holy Father has heard of the many blood feuds which exist on this island, and he lends his most deepest sympathy for the travails your family has endured."

"I'm quite certain that it has," Lucrezia said, placing herself into the nearest chair and fluffing her skirts. "Especially considering that, from an observer's point of view, it seems that your family is the most righteous. The most deserving, one might say, of Divine favor."

Unless, of course, the Skywalkers weren't interested, in which case the Borgias could back a different horse.

The writers were probably on their weekly doing-lines-of-coke-with-hookers binge again. Writing from Thursday sessions always got a little ... strange.

"His Holiness proposes a proper recognition of all your family has done," she said solemnly. "A public ceremony, declaring the Skywalkers to be Officially Beloved of God. Your grandfather would receive a seat at the Pope's right hand, and a vote in official church matters."

Today's subject that the writers knew nothing about: Catholicism!

"How wonderful," Lucrezia beamed. "His Holiness will be delighted."

She only waited a moment before adding, "Of course -- the ceremony itself will need to be a proper affair, done up far more lavishly than our diminishing church funds can accept at this particular moment. We would hate to insult the glory of the Skywalker name by throwing a shabby celebration."

Did it perhaps sound like the Borgias were sniffing around for a piece of the pie? Nothing in this town ever went for free, did it? And bribing and killing one's enemies had diminished the papal coffers quite a bit.

"Then everything's settled," Lucrezia said brightly. "I look forward to creating an alliance between our families, for the common good."

If Anakin proved reluctant, Jaina could always sell him out. Lucrezia was increasingly tempted to do that with her father, but was waiting for Sweeps Week to actually put those plans in motion.

"It has been a pleasure," she said, offering Jaina her hand.
