Somewhere in GFFA- Monday Fandom time

While last week's Portalocity email had maybe made Jaina a little paranoid, she'd talked to enough people since then to be reassured that at least she could talk to people. And then came today's email, with words like "have become almost impossible to contact" and there went all that reassurance. Nice going, Portalocity.

Luckily she was playing bodyguard for a diplomat right now, which wasn't exactly high-maintenance work most of the time, so she had more time to hang out by herself and make calls to people to make sure she could still get in touch with them.

That whole pushing people away thing was obviously going great.

Eric was in his normal place in the VIP section (not wrestling the ropes, thank you) and picked up his phone.

"Hello, you," he said, smiling.

Don't mind the relief in her voice. "Oh good, I can still talk to you."

"Have you been practicing Swedish?" Eric teased.

[solo_sword]

"Don't tempt me into trying," Jaina grinned. If one of Threepio's over six million forms of communication were Swedish, she'd totally be on that already. "I was worried my call wouldn't go through."

"The Portalocity email?" Eric guessed.

[solo_sword]

"Got it in one," she said. "They've screwed me over before, so it tends to make me a little paranoid."

Or a lot, whatever.

"When did they do that?" Eric asked.

Throttle down the angry sheriff vibe a bit, Eric.

[solo_sword]

"The summer after I graduated. Came home to visit, the portal back to Earth shut down and I was stuck here for five years," Jaina explained. Now that she could at least get a call through, she sounded more casual about it. "And it'd only been like two weeks in Fandom, just for added fun."

"Sounds unsettling," Eric replied, who was now wondering if he should call Pam more often.

"The workers at the Portalocity terminal on Coruscant know me on sight now," she said, maybe a little proudly. She had no problem threatening people who deserved it. "But as long as I can get calls through and things are working..."

"Well, call as often as you'd like," Eric said magnanimously. "I'd send you some dirt, but I appear to have eaten much of it this weekend..."

Jaina frowned. "Why were you eating d-" And then she remembered Katniss' call. "Were you four?"

"Seven, I think," Eric replied. "And allergic to bathing. But I played in the sun."

There was a note of wistfulness there he hoped she wouldn't comment on.

She wouldn't, but she caught it. "Congratulations on your first childhood regression. Did you have fun?"

"Yes," Eric admitted. "Even if no one had a clue what I was saying."

[solo_sword]

"You only spoke Swedish?" She remembered him mentioning something about that the last time people turned little.

"I spoke the language that would eventually become Swedish," Eric said ruefully. "I spent a long time playing with the light switches, and I need to have Joan speak to Zayne about getting my garbage disposal repaired."

"...Who's Joan and what happened to your garbage disposal?" she asked.

"She's my new employee to handle my daytime affairs," Eric explained, "so your dirt will arrive in a timely manner now. And I experimented with sticking things down the disposal. And I don't have food in my house."

[solo_sword]

"I should not be this excited about getting dirt," Jaina realized. "I have actually had to fix disposals before and I am so worried for the state of yours. Why does Zayne have to fix it?"

"Because I saw what happens when you feed it two vases and a shoe," Eric said ruefully. "It breaks."

Mainly she was wondering what Zayne had to do with it since she still didn't know where Eric lived.

But now she was stuck on, "A shoe."

"One of my favorite shoes," Eric bitched.

Somehow Jaina managed to keep a straight face. "You can always get new shoes. I'm personally impressed you managed that sort of destruction."

"I was a very talented child," Eric said dryly. "I declared the playground in the park my own kingdom. In Swedish, so I don't think anyone cared, but I did it."
