George Washington Masonic Memorial- Alexandria, VA- Saturday night

Sometime after the cheer had been had and people had been appropriately soaked, there was a trip into Alexandria, and specifically a little monument. Which, yes, Jaina found pretty cool, even if she's used to seeing monuments. It wasn't stuck on top of another monument, to begin with. That automatically put it in the plus category.

"This is pretty impressive," she admitted. "And I'm not even entirely sure what it is."

"Our special effects are better," she smiled. "What's it like where you come from?"

"You know, typical Earth locale. Very green and blue," John said vaguely. "You have any plans to follow in your mom's footsteps? I'm sure your skills in stealth and theft would come in handy in politics."

"Oh, definitely not," she said quickly. "I joined up with the military when I went back home this summer. I can't say now whether I'd want to do it for my entire life, but I'd definitely love to do that for a while." And she might have been watching for the reaction to that.

John tried not to be too gleeful upon hearing Jaina was military. "That's great. What branch are you in? Do you even have branches?" He didn't know how it worked on other planets.

"Not really," Jaina answered. "I'm a lieutenant in Rogue Squadron, which is a very elite X-wing squadron and I still can't believe I made it in. I'm on LOA while I'm here."

"So, basically you're a teenage fighter pilot? Can I go live on your planet?"

"I'm sure I could always put in a recommendation if you wanted to test," she told him. "Is flying really a career aspiration?"

"Yup," John said. "My goal is to join the Air Force Academy after high school. Seems the best way to fly for a living on Earth."

"Good goal," Jaina said appreciatively. "And the training you get here beforehand has got to help."

"Thanks, I'm hoping it will. Not that X-Wing sim experience is sought after on Earth, but it'll make me stand out," John agreed.

"And you can tell all your pilot buddies you've flown a spaceship."

"Something tells me they might not believe that, but I can certainly try."

"Might want to make sure you pass any psych evals first," she smiled.

He chuckled, "They should be expecting to hear some strange things as soon as they find out what high school I went to."

"If so, you have plenty of fodder if you want to make things up, too," she suggested.

"I think the word 'dinosaurs' will blow enough minds," John replied. "You can't make stuff that good up!"

"Also, being a bunny," she reminded him, grinning. "You never should have told me that."

"Is this something you're going to hold over my head often?" John inquired.

"I haven't decided. I know I have the option, and nothing embarrassing has happened to me yet, though..."

"Though what?" John was thankful she hadn't seen him with the pink glitter hair.

"Though if and when it does, I figure you'd probably be lording that over me, too."

John grinned, "If the opportunity arises, I'm sure I'd be totally understanding and not say a single thing." He was such a bad liar.

"Perfect, very silent gentleman, huh?" she said, pretty clearly not believing a single word.

"I've got references and everything," John assured her.

She had no idea why that amused her as much as it did. "They aren't related to you, are they? Because that calls them into question," Jaina said.
