Room 313, bright and early Monday morning

Jaina didn't have classes on Monday. She hadn't had any trouble sleeping. There hadn't been any great Fandom call to arms, even. And yet she was awake, because she wasn't sure how serious "bright and early" was.

She got ready as quietly as possible, then decided the best place to wait was back on her bed. Not sleeping, really. Or at least she was definitely awake enough to hear a knock.

She knew too many morning people.

"That depends on what's available," she said, slowing. "I don't think anything big will be a good idea if we have to go back."

"There's always cereal back at the dorm," he offered. "We might even be able to locate some fruit to put in it."

"Ooh, fancy," Jaina grinned. "That sounds great, actually."

"Cool," John was pleased she liked simple. "So, did you have a really good big sibling to teach you all the wonders of things like cereal and fruit?"

"I didn't learn about cereal and fruit," Jaina said. "Isabel's my big sister, so I got the basics and my first car ride in an Earth vehicle. A pretty good trade, I think."

"Cool, how'd you like the car ride?" he asked. "Do you know what sort of car it was?"

Jaina proceeded to tell him all about the car, mostly focusing on the technical details rather than things like color. "It was a good ride," she said. "Would have been better if it flew, but I'll take what I can get."

John was impressed and listened interestedly to her description. "Yeah, I love flying, but here it's easier to get a fast car."

"Are you into those, too?" she asked.

"Well, it's the main mode of transportation here," he said. "Meaning I could drive before I could fly." Not that he had technically finished his pilot's license. Details!

"What kind do you drive?" And where that question would probably mean something entirely different coming from just about any other girl, Jaina was actually curious about how it all was put together.

Based on how Jaina had answered his car question, John set to work attempting to describe the tech details of the car he had back home. "And it was black," he added, just to be thorough.

"Not bad," she said, listening intently. "Now I need to look it up for a picture, just to make sure I have the visual right." She probably did.

"It's not all the impressive, but it got me where I needed to go," he told her as they neared the dorm.

"And here we use our feet. Think it would work if we attached motors to them?"

"Like wear shoes with motors and wheels?"

"Yes. Come on, someone on this planet has to have invented that already," she said.

"I'm sure every science fair known on this planet has seen rollerskates with a mini motor at some point," John teased. "Similar concept to your hoverboard, really."

"But my hoverboard is far better than any science fair project," she said, faking a pretty good pout. She rarely pouted and meant it, but she could. Genetic trait.

"Well yeah, what with the hovering," he soothed, reaching out a hand to pat her shoulder.

And the pout disappeared immediately, and Jaina almost managed to force it back. "I'm so glad to know I can still beat schoolchildren at their own game," she teased.

"I would hope you could," he said. "They're younger, if not shorter, than you, after all."

"Ohhhh, low blow!" she said, but she was laughing.

"Sorry, I couldn't help myself," he said, holding back from making a comment about just how low the blow was because he liked her and was not mean and evil.

"I'll forgive you this time," Jaina said. "If there's a next time, expect comeuppance."
