Room 527, Sunday night

Jaina got back upstairs later than she'd planned to, with the goodbyes she had to say and Fight Club, though not necessarily in that order. At least yesterday had been good, and she had tonight to look forward to. Hopefully.

There was a reason when she got to the room, she asked, "You're not a bunny again, are you?"

"You're not half as funny as you might think," John told her from where he'd been messing with the television. She might note the table was gone, as were his curtains and a whole lot of other belongings.

It was like someone was moving.

"Yes, I am," she said, looking around as she closed the door. "You've been busy."

He felt a little guilty, like he shouldn't have packed so much already. "Yeah, I have a surprising amount of free time. Imagine what I could've done without procrastinating every time I found something to read or watch."

She'd really rather not. "At the very least, my stuff takes me two minutes to pack up, so you're going to have that till the last possibly minute," she said, trying for a 'ha' tone.

"I'm counting on it," he told her, stepping over to give her a hug because he still could. This would not be the case in a week.

"Did you see Lois hit the road?"

Jaina nodded, hugging him back, because she still could. "Jolee's out, too." Today had kind of sucked.

"It's another of those mass exodus weeks," John said, giving her a squeeze. "I don't look forward to this."

"They happen," she said, turning her head to rest against his chest. "I used to get upset during them, but I've realized as long as the people are saying goodbye because they're still alive, I shouldn't complain."

"That's a really sad way of looking at it," John decided. "But I understand what you mean."

Even sadder was the number of people just die. "I thought that was pretty optimistic."

"Sure, if just being alive is the most you can hope for someone," he shrugged.

"I've had to start thinking differently," she said. "It's not bad. Just realistic. And it helps to know that once someone moves, they're not gone."

"Of course they're not," John said. "They're just not here." Given his first real friend on the island had left what felt like forever ago, he'd had to come to that conclusion quickly.

"We need a happier subject," Jaina decided. "So what are we doing?"

He agreed with that. "We are going to watch a movie. It's classic and wholly necessary to your appreciation of Earth's culture." Even if he didn't think they'd make it through the whole thing.

"And what movie is this?" she wondered.

"The Princess Bride," John told her. "It's a lot rougher than it sounds."

"I don't know, it sounds really sappy," Jaina decided.

"You're just like the kid in the beginning," he said, moving toward the sofa, which was pretty much the only thing left in the room besides the dorm furniture. "Just watch, you'll like it."

It was weird not having the table there, Jaina realized as she sat down, and she didn't want to ask where it'd gone. "I will trust your judgment," she said, making herself comfortable.

He picked up the remote and started the film, "Which you sort of have to, here. I've packed up your other choices."

"And what if I wanted to watch another movie before then?" she asked, just to be a brat.

"You'll have to hit T&C for a rental," he told her, sticking out his tongue.

"So cold," she teased, leaning against him because she could. "Why's there a kid in this?"

"His grandpa is telling him the story, just watch," John told her, leaning in and wrapping a comfortable arm around her.
