Palo Alto, CA- Sunday Fandom time

To be completely honest, Jaina had spent a large part of her visit (namely, the parts when John wasn't around) bored out of her mind. Time moved too fast for work to catch up to her here, and she was dying to find someplace she could actually practice lightsaber drills. But time alone while he was at school or training meant she was expanding her horizons a bit. Or at least it meant that she got bored enough to attempt dinner on her own, even if it was just pasta. She was relatively sure she couldn't food poison anyone with it.

"It almost scares me that you cook," John remarked, tossing his bag on the floor and hanging up his jacket. Palo Alto in February meant jackets, not coats and it was a change John was very accepting of.

"Throwing noodles on a stove is not cooking," she corrected, looking over her shoulder at him. "Cooking requires more than ten minutes, I think."

It didn't.

"Sometimes it only takes two minutes in the microwave," John replied, joining her and hoping she had used a pan for the poor thrown noodles.

Oh, look, she'd been taught well. "Microwave cooking doesn't count," she said. "Wow, I sound spoiled. You think I didn't eat military food."

"No, I just think you like going out to dinner," he said, since that was his preferred method of eating since she'd been in town.

She gave him an annoyed look that she didn't mean. "I've improved," she insisted.

"Oh?" he said, sneaking a piece of uncooked pasta to crunch on. "Do tell."

"Things don't burn as much and they taste better." Or her taste buds had gone numb. Whichever.

"You have a point there," he agreed. "But hey, what's a little burn? Adds some crunch." He was so not a picky eater.

Jaina frowned, turning off the stove when she'd decided it was done. "Remind me not to trust your opinion on taste..."

"Hey, I picked you didn't I?" John replied and then decided to tease. "Oh wait...don't answer that."

"I could make you go without dinner, you know," she pointed out. Or make him eat it as punishment.

"Would that count as punishment?" John teased, leaning down to kiss her on the cheek because he didn't want to die, no.

"You think you're so cute," she said, swatting him lightly.

He grinned smugly because he knew he was. "Maybe so."

"You're not supposed to agree with that," Jaina teased, reaching past him to get to the plates. "It messes up our routine."

"Is our routine me saying that it's not me thinking I'm cute, it's the part where I am cute and you're very aware of it that's a problem?" So innocent, this one.

"I'm not saying I'm aware of your cuteness or lack thereof." Liiiies.

"Don't have to be a Jedi to know that's a lie," John told her, finding the necessary silverware in a drawer.

"Oh, you think?" she asked, raising a challenging eyebrow as she got the plates together.

"I know," he confirmed. "But it's okay, if you're afraid to admit you're affected by me, I'm fine with it."

"I'm not afraid to admit anything," Jaina said. "There's just the possibility that I'm not affected." More liiiiies.

"And all it took was two months living here to get you over me," he tutted, knowing she was still lying.

"Or I became immune," she shrugged. "All that time together, you know."

"Guess we need a few months apart to get things back to normal," he suggested.
