Room 313, after classes

Between the end of Parents Weekend (including the meeting she was glad went as well as it did), Fandom finding even more ways to scar her, and other things, Jaina was having a pretty interesting week so far.

Some parts of it (okay, the Parents Weekend parts only), she knew she had to actually update people about, especially since it was official that she wouldn't be going home permanently for a while. Which was why she'd started recording a transmission to her mother before realizing talking about how great her weekend with her dad was might not be such a great idea, and had resumed sitting there and trying to figure out what to say.

"Don't ask, I'm not telling," she said simply.

"I wasn't going to," Luke said, looking a little shattered. He could kind of guess who it was, anyway. Han never flew the Falcon without him.

"He's not talking to Leia about it either, huh."

"He's Dad," she said, though the truth was that he had talked about it, it just wasn't apparently very nice. "He's not exactly a guy who shares his feelings."

"He shares them," Luke said loyally, "just...not like other people do."

Affectionate teasing was sharing feelings, right?

"In any case, he seems to be doing better," she said. "I wasn't able to get him to tell me much about why, but apparently Mara didn't threaten to space him on his own ship once, so I'm taking that as a good sign."

Luke nodded. "If you think it'll help, I'll get Artoo to make a copy..."

Luke was a ridiculously good friend.

Jaina laughed and said, "You know my version of you would never live it down."

"Family-only viewing?" Luke suggested with a grin.

She almost said that Mara would never let her version of Luke live it down, but bit that back. "Next time we're all in the same room, I'll make the suggestion."

"Happy to help," Luke said with another smile before locking eyes with Jaina and getting more serious. "And you're okay?"

"Completely," she assured him. "You'd know if I wasn't."

"I would," Luke said, nodding, "but I wanted to check anyway. Our family...can be a little much to deal with."

"I think I'm too used to it, really," Jaina said. "But then I tell John some of what it's like and I kind of realize it's not the most normal."

"Which parts?" Luke asked, aiming for casual.

And missing by a long, long way.

"You're so bad at subtle, Uncle Luke," she said honestly. "Parts." She figured he'd know.

Luke glanced down at his hands. "Oh. How'd he take it?"

"Not the best," Jaina admitted. "I don't think he wanted to know, really. But he'd been hearing things, and he deserved to know."

Now Luke was looking worried and a little overprotective. "He's not going to back away from you now, is he?" he asked. "Because it's not your fault we're a holodrama waiting to be cast."

Yeah, ha, but she wasn't telling him that.

"No. Though class could potentially be interesting. I'm not sure how... I really need to reconcile what to call him already. I don't know how he's going to be after the weekend, either," she said.

"Angry," Luke said, cocking his head and listening to the Force. "He hates to feel stupid. Did he meet your guests, too?"

"He met Mara. She didn't say much about it, but I think it's safe to say it got interesting," she admitted.

"I'll bet he has a few opinions, yeah," Luke said dryly.

"However it went, it doesn't really affect anything, I think." She hoped. "I'm just glad to have them off to their separate corners where nothing will explode."

"Me too," Luke said, smiling softly. "I liked Mara."

"Yeah, I kinda caught that," Jaina admitted after a moment's pause.
