MCA #6- Thursday all day

When Jaina first arrived four/eleven years ago, she hadn't thought she'd be here this long. At times she'd practically been running for the nearest portal that would take her anywhere but here. So the fact that she was even a little bit upset about leaving Fandom now was kind of a shock to her. She never once thought she'd be leaving here feeling even the slightest bit centered, or thinking that maybe dating shouldn't be off-limits forever (she knew she still wouldn't have time for it but that was not the point), or feeling like she could handle the next few years even knowing what might happen.

She wasn't actually leaving until first thing Friday morning, but she didn't want to be upset when she left. She just wanted to get up and go before she had a chance to think about it. So she sent out an email to let people know today was the last day she'd be around and give them her contact info in case she didn't get to see them, and set about to doing all the last-minute tasks she had to get out of the way. Things like making sure her X-wing and Sneaker were both in working order, cleaning, packing up another box to send off for home because she had too much stuff to take along to fit in said X-wing, wondering how the kriff that had even happened, things like that. In related news, moving was annoying.

A lot of things had changed during Jaina's collective time in Fandom, but one thing definitely didn't: keeping distracted so she didn't have to think was always going to be her default coping mechanism.

It wasn't like Tahiri would be going home to a world without a Jaina in it, when she went. The Jaina at home hadn't gotten bitten by a gremlin and gone around hugging people with her, though, or as far as she knew gotten saddled with various unexpected future kids, or -- oh, just close your eyes and point at a Fandom experience at random. The (somewhat ironic) point was that she'd known the other Jaina most of her life and didn't feel as close to her as the one she'd only met when she came here.

Getting back to the relevant thing, though: no kriffing way would she miss out on a chance to say goodbye and cling like a clinging thing.

It was early in the day when she came by and knocked on the door, and yes, she fully expected to find Jaina keeping herself busy with a million things.

At the moment, there was a silent argument happening between Jaina and her bag, which was currently being repacked for the third time, and it was an argument she was all too happy to leave for the moment. She opened the door, giving Tahiri a little rueful smile as she let her in. "I was hoping you'd be by."

Seeing the apartment all packed up was a little bit of a blow, yeah, but Tahiri half grinned back.

"Tenel Ka would stop saying 'this is a fact' before I'd have passed up the opportunity to come by, under the circumstances," she replied. "Who's winning: you, or the stuff you have to pack?"

"Definitely the stuff," Jaina said, frowning over her shoulder at the bag. "I have no idea how I accumulated so much of it."

It's called staying in one place for a year on top of having been here three years before that, Jaina.

"Oh. Well. That's daunting. I'm almost afraid of dealing with my room when I have to pack," Tahiri admitted. "Not to mention I'm going to have to take the grass out and replace the flooring. It's almost easier when we're moving around all the time, isn't it?"

"It really, really is," she said. "And I do not envy you having to fix that. At all. How long are you around for?"

"Unless something I'm really, crucially needed for comes up," which was something Tahiri would never rule out, "all summer. I'd like to enjoy a world with no chocolate shortage for as long as possible before I head to Zonama Sekot. I'd ask what you're going to be up to, but you're way ahead of me now."

She paused. "Unless it's safe to mention."

"It won't spoil anything," Jaina assured her. "It's just going out on routine missions for the Jedi. I partner with Zekk almost exclusively now, so it's off to Coruscant to meet him, and then... I'm not sure where we're off to then, but I'm sure I'll be off on something soon."

Ben, naturally, was at the door only a little bit after Tahiri.

He was also holding ice cream.

He knocked even though he knew Jaina would be able to feel his presence.

Yeah, she could definitely tell it was him, which was why she called, "It's open, Ben!" while doing another run-through of the kitchen to make sure she'd gotten rid of everything. Which had kind of been cathartic.

"Wow, it's really empty in here," Ben observed astutely as he looked around.

"It is. I'm trying to get used to it, but mainly it just looks weird," she said, frowning at the room.

"Well, you're not here for too much longer to get used to it," Ben said, pressing his lips together and looking unhappy.

He wasn't good with goodbyes.

"I know," she sighed. "If it helps, I'm not exactly happy about it." Well, not completely. Getting back to her real life was a long time coming, but still.

"It helps a little," Ben admitted, holding out the ice cream. "It's chocolate, since that's not exactly common at home yet."

Leia certainly wasn't going to let her alternate universe daughter leave without saying goodbye, so when she got Jaina's message, she headed into town to her apartment, knocking on the door when she arrived.

By now Jaina had won the fight with her bag, which she placed near the door when she went to open it. "Hey," she said with a little smile, letting her inside.

"You're leaving already?" Leia said, feeling the need to point out the obvious.

"I have to," she said with a nod. "I have to get back to work at home. Besides, I'm officially employed here and I'm pretty sure they won't let me stay rent-free." A little try at levity there.

"You'll be back to visit though, won't you?" Leia asked.

She was still pretty convinced that Han was a jackass and there was no way in hell she'd ever marry him and have a Jaina in her world, and she didn't like the thought of being entirely Jaina-less.

"Without a doubt," Jaina told her. "It'll depend on when I'm free, but I think if I don't come back, I'll hear it from people. And I'm never without my phone or comlink, so I'm always reachable."
