Room 313, Friday evening

Jaina still felt like she should be doing something, but she was trying so hard not to go off and do something stupid anyway. Logically she knew trying to do something like knock an angel's head off was probably only going to get her into trouble, but... but...

So this was her cleaning her side of the room that didn't need cleaning because she was trying to keep herself busy while being good.

"You should have been more clear." She felt better with the usual teasing banter. It was much more normal. Nice job, John.

Sometimes he was useful. "I thought I was perfectly clear," he argued. He really liked arguing with her for some reason.

"Apparently not," she argued back.

"Misunderstanding could be on your end," he pointed out.

"It's not," she said stubbornly.

"Uh huh," he replied. "You know, someday I'm not going to let you win one of these stubborn battles."

"There's no 'let' about it," Jaina said.

"There's definitely a 'let' about it," John said.

"Giving up is not the same as letting me win," she challenged. "Remember last week."

"I did not give up last week," John argued. "I just checked my priorities."

"Uh huh." Yeah, she believed that.

"I did!" He now had a reason not to back down.

"Okay, okay, fine. You did," she said, and paused. "See, that's me letting you win."

John grinned, faking a gasp. "I never thought it possible!"

"Every once in a while I have to at least try to be nice, I guess," she explained.

"I kinda like you all mean," he teased.

"I'm not mean," she protested.

He reached out to pat her hand. "Nope, you're just you."

"I'm very nice, you just get to see the combative side of me," she explained.

"Now I feel cheated," he replied. "Who gets the nice side?"

"You, sometimes."

"Like now," he nodded. "Are there any other sides I should be aware of?"

"I'm sure there are, but you've probably seen them all by now," she said after a moment. She didn't tend to think about things like that much.

"Good to know," he said, stretching his arms restlessly. "Are you sure we can't just do a little something to the statues? Maybe throw food at them from far, far away."

"If you're going to get sent into the past, it had better be for a better reason than throwing food at them," she said. "I'd personally prefer you to stay in the here and now."
