Room 313, Sunday night

Jaina tried to keep her mess restricted to the garage, mostly for Inara's sake rather than her own. Besides, rediscovering lost spare parts in bare feet was never fun, which was why she was collecting all the pieces for the toaster experiment into containers to bring back down there.

And then occasionally trying to throw them into said containers from a distance away out of boredom.

[Please entertain me. I found bad Jaina fic at the Pit of Voles and now I feel like I need to redeem her.]

"Are we going to go around on this for a trip that happened over two months ago?" she asked. Well, two months for her.

"Has it been that long?" he wasn't so great at keeping track of time.

"February?" she said, thinking back. It felt a lot longer than that, but she'd had a sucky month or so.

"And to think classes are almost over for the semester." He couldn't believe how fast it all seemed to happen.

"We've almost been here for a year," Jaina realized. "A full Earth year."

"It's kind of amazing, huh?"

"That's a good word for it. I don't know how it even happened."

"I didn't think I'd manage to stay this long when I arrived." Now he couldn't imagine leaving.

She looked over, frowning. "Really?"

"Really," he repeated. "I was just supposed to be here for the summer."

Once again Jaina felt really lucky. "Not to be selfish or anything, but I'm incredibly behind that change in plans."

"It was a good change," John agreed. "One that I stand by for many reasons."

"I honestly can't imagine this place without you," she admitted. "Though I may be biased."

"Here's hoping you won't have to, at least not for a while," he replied.

"That's not an imminent possibility or anything, is it?"

"Not for a good, long while." Or a year. Same difference.

She'd worry about that about a year from now, and not a second sooner. "That's the answer I wanted to hear," she said with a little smile.

He was with her on that sentiment. "We decided I'm staying, right?" he asked, stretching out and making himself more comfortable on her bed.

"Yeah, we did," she decided, watching him. "Comfy?"

"Not yet," he replied, motioning for her to join him.

She laid next to him, pulling herself in close. "Better?"

"Much," he replied, working an arm around her.

"By the way," she said, leaning in to kiss him lightly. "Hi."

"Hi," he repeated, giving her a kiss in return. They were so backwards sometimes.

"That's much better," she decided, wrapping an arm around him to stay close.
