George Washington Masonic Memorial- Alexandria, VA- Saturday night

Sometime after the cheer had been had and people had been appropriately soaked, there was a trip into Alexandria, and specifically a little monument. Which, yes, Jaina found pretty cool, even if she's used to seeing monuments. It wasn't stuck on top of another monument, to begin with. That automatically put it in the plus category.

"This is pretty impressive," she admitted. "And I'm not even entirely sure what it is."

"French fries," she repeated. "That... sounds easy enough. You're on."

"Excellent," John liked this plan. "Whenever you're ready for your pool hall education, I'm there."

"Perfect," Jaina said. "I like your negotiating style, John."

"Why thank you," John said. "It's been finely honed over the years for the purpose of food acquisition."

"A better reason than most people have, especially at such a young age," she said. Okay, she might have been partially serious about that.

He snapped his fingers, "Darn, you mean I could've been negotiating for use of the family car - or spaceship?"

"Well, you seemed to really want those French fries. Who am I to deny you that?" Jaina said. "Unless you wanted to reopen negotiations."

"First I'd need to know if you currently possess a spaceship," John said. "Or a family car."

"Well, we don't have cars where I come from, but I do have a X-wing. It's not on this planet, though."

"That won't do," John replied. "Hmm. Do you have a Ferris wheel?"

"I'm missing one of those," she said, laughing a little. "A Ferris wheel?"

"It's a giant wheel that you can ride high up in the sky," John explained. "I'm not surprised you don't have one, but that would've been cool."

"Do you know anyone who does have one?" she asked out of curiosity.

"Sadly, no," John replied. "They're generally found on celebrity ranches and fairgrounds."

"Giant wheels on celebrity ranches... Sometimes I wonder if this planet isn't entirely sane," she said, but that wasn't a bad thing.

"Sometimes I wonder that myself," John nodded. "So, tell me something odd about your planet."

"That's easy. It's the capital of the entire galaxy," she said. "Incredibly busy, never stops, air traffic at any given time of day, and we're just full up to the brim with politicians because of it. Which is where the oddness comes in."

"That's quite a hometown," John remarked. "Tell me about the oddness."

"It's a lot of different species- a lot more than anything here- arguing over every possible little detail so as long as it turns out good for them. My mother's a Councilor, so it's a lot of meetings and paperwork and it's really boring until sides clash and fighting starts," she said. "The rest of it is like a really big city, very crowded, and then there are actually people living underneath the city, because it's just not big enough aboveground."

"That sounds like something out of a science fiction movie," John said, in awe of how cool Jaina's planet must be.

"Our special effects are better," she smiled. "What's it like where you come from?"

"You know, typical Earth locale. Very green and blue," John said vaguely. "You have any plans to follow in your mom's footsteps? I'm sure your skills in stealth and theft would come in handy in politics."

"Oh, definitely not," she said quickly. "I joined up with the military when I went back home this summer. I can't say now whether I'd want to do it for my entire life, but I'd definitely love to do that for a while." And she might have been watching for the reaction to that.

John tried not to be too gleeful upon hearing Jaina was military. "That's great. What branch are you in? Do you even have branches?" He didn't know how it worked on other planets.

"Not really," Jaina answered. "I'm a lieutenant in Rogue Squadron, which is a very elite X-wing squadron and I still can't believe I made it in. I'm on LOA while I'm here."
