Room 313, Wednesday night

Long after fencing club, Jaina was in her room, dressed for bed but not ready to attempt sleep. She was still not really wanting to think about certain things, and feeling pretty antisocial to boot, which she wanted to stop already. Her usual method of coping was not to cope, and that didn't work so well when you'd had to tell the story several times already.

Figuring she wouldn't sleep well if she tried yet anyway, she grabbed her comlink from her desk, debating whether calling home would help or not.

With no real reason in mind, John wandered downstairs and knocked on Jaina's door.

She knew who it was, and she didn't think antisocial applied to him. "Come in," she called, reaching over to put the comlink back on the desk.

John entered the room, sadly not ready for bed. "I'm not interrupting bedtime am I?"

She shook her head. "Just making myself comfortable, that's all," she said. "Hi."

"Hi, yourself," he replied, moving to give her a quick kiss in greeting.

She kissed him back, smiling a little up at him. "Something up?" she wondered.

John shrugged. "Not really, just felt like seeing you. Which I've done now."

"Congratulations on your accomplishment," she said, wondering if that meant he was going to leave now that he'd done that.

"You up for company or should I make myself scarce?" he asked.

"You did come all this way," she said, moving to make room for him and sort of appreciating that he'd asked.

"It was quite a hike," he agreed, taking a seat. "I appreciate the chance to rest up."

"I've noticed how you all like your lawsuits here. Wouldn't want to invite trouble," she nodded.

John shook his head. "And you call me confusing. What're you up to?"

"Nothing," she shrugged. "Had fencing club earlier. It's been pretty low-key."

John didn't think he knew she was in fencing club. "Do you wear the padding and use the dull epee?"

"I have no idea what that is," she said honestly. "I just use a practice lightsaber."

"It's the name for the fencing sword," John replied. "Practice like it's a stick?"

"More or less," she said. "Wouldn't really want to try my lightsaber against a regular sword."

"The activity wouldn't last long, that's for sure," John commented. "You do some sparring?"

"Drills on my own. I've felt a little out of practice since I left Coruscant. Didn't want to embarrass myself." Yeah, when she left Coruscant like three weeks earlier. Enough time to get really rusty, sure.

"Right," John said, not believing for a second she was actually out of practice, but understanding the feeling. "Feel better about it after a workout?"

"Kind of. It sort of just felt better to be moving again. Like I was doing something, you know?" She wasn't sure many other people would get that, but she thought he would.

He liked to think he understood that. "Yeah, it's like getting your routine back."

"Exactly," she said. "And I don't think I do well at being stationary."

"You're not exactly alone with that," he said.
