The beach- Thursday evening

Jaina's portal was delayed. She had no idea how a portal could be delayed, but here she was. After a while of waiting at the causeway, she'd come to the beach, figuring that if she was going to be stuck waiting, she should at least get a change of scenery.

Watching the waves made her think too much, though. About her grandfather and Tiny Mom, about how certain things just kept popping up through the years, even about how much her thinking had changed since she was sixteen. That was when she'd check her datapad to read up on what was going on on Corellia, because potential conflict was a happier subject.

Or she'd check on her portal's ETA and curse at the very idea of gnomes when she saw it was delayed again. How?

"It's fun when the reputation works in your favor," Jaina said with a smile.

What, there were bonuses to being kind of scary sometimes.

"Does that include all the different realities?" Jaina asked, smiling. "Should have figured I'd see you here."

By now Jaina almost expected Portalocity to be using some kind of automated system to tell her that her portal was canceled, so she picked up without looking at the ID. "Solo."

"Less fun when the reputation is 'causes so much accidental destruction you wouldn't even believe it,' but I guess you have to take what you can get," Zayne said.

He reached out to give her a tight hug. "Dad called for reinforcement."

"True," Ben said, linking his hands behind his head to stare up at the sky. "How are you doing with it?"

"The 'accidental' part does bring it down a bit," she admitted. "But only a bit."

"Feeling guilty and sorry for everybody, and weirded out that I have done a complete 180 turn since I first showed up in Fandom. You?"

It always felt good to get validation from Jaina, so Anakin flashed her a grateful smile.

"I guess, if I have his name, I might as well learn why, right?" he asked. "You and Tahiri were both pretty insistent about that, and if both of you are teaming up on me, I don't have much of a choice."

He grinned, if briefly. "It felt like the right call."

Sometimes Anakin was smart. She hugged him back, agreeing, "If there is one person that's good to have around right now, it's you..."

"I'm waiting on a portal that's never showing up, so I have a lot of seconds," she said. "Hi, Rory. What's up?"

Though she could make some guesses.

"Your mom came to visit me and Juliet today," Rory said casually. "The little one, I mean. Not your actual mother."

"That's always nice to here," he said, pulling back slightly. "She'll be okay, but you don't need me to tell you that."

"Less than you'd think," Zayne said. "There was a lot of accidental destruction."

"You're still here," Eric observed. "Do I need to eat someone?"

Most people started with "hello."

She grinned briefly right back. "It's a messed-up situation here where it would have probably gone badly any way we handled it," she explained. "It's amazing how redemption can complicate some things."

"I'm kind of sorry I never got to see that," Jaina said.

"Sounds familiar, yeah," Ben said, nodding. "I couldn't really look at the guy for months and now I feel kind of bad for him."

"I know," she nodded. "I worry more about him, really."

Not to turn Leia's philosophy on Jaina around on her or anything, but Jaina assumed that once the anger dissipated and things calmed down, she'd get through it just fine. But she'd had enough conversations with Anakin where he worried about this sort of thing that she didn't make those assumptions there.

That was a good move on Leia's part, she bet. "How'd that go?"

"Explain to me how portals get delayed," Jaina helloed right back. "Where were they that they can't be on kriffing time?"

"Well, she didn't yell at me," Rory offered. "So I got off easier than your grandfather. She mostly wanted to know how I dealt with finding out and how I got past it. Poor thing."

"Well, it comes up a couple times in the history I'm recording for your records," Zayne said. "You'll get to hear about the planet-wide disasters that can be traced back to me."

Luke nodded. "He's been dreading this since she arrived," he said quietly. "Maybe now that it's over he'll be able to relax and just absorb the impact?"
