The beach- Thursday evening

Jaina's portal was delayed. She had no idea how a portal could be delayed, but here she was. After a while of waiting at the causeway, she'd come to the beach, figuring that if she was going to be stuck waiting, she should at least get a change of scenery.

Watching the waves made her think too much, though. About her grandfather and Tiny Mom, about how certain things just kept popping up through the years, even about how much her thinking had changed since she was sixteen. That was when she'd check her datapad to read up on what was going on on Corellia, because potential conflict was a happier subject.

Or she'd check on her portal's ETA and curse at the very idea of gnomes when she saw it was delayed again. How?

"Say it's from me, that might make it a little easier," she said lightly.

Ben smiled at her, shoving all of his issues with his dad back behind his normal walls of repression. "You know how much it hurts to admit when parents are right about stuff."

"I think there needs to be a law against it," Jaina said. "Or at least something saying they can't be all them about it."

"With the slight smug little smile of 'of course I was right'?" Ben replied. "Or that infuriating Jedi calm he has which makes yelling so very pointless?"

Dial it back, Ben.

"Yelling isn't pointless it if makes you feel better," Jaina said.

Or that was what she told herself because she'd had those moments with Luke too and nothing would stop her from yelling if she felt like it.

"True," Ben replied. "Blame spending time with Ender. He's not a yeller either."

"That's no fun," she decided.

"Does Tall, Fangy and Blond yell?" Ben wondered.

"You say that like you've met him," she said warily. "And I don't know. We've never had to argue."

"There was a gremlin bite," Ben admitted. "He's kind of scary."

"Yeah he is go back to the gremlin bite."

"He, Granddad and I sang some kind of Irish song really, really badly. In hats."

The hats had stuck with him.

"And I missed it?" Someone had to have video. The portal probably wouldn't come for days, she could track them down.

"Yeah, you did," Ben said, looking really cheered up by that.

"Do not look so happy about that," she said, mock-glaring.

Ben laughed. "It's not often I get away with something around you. I'm going to savor it."

"Yes, fine," she conceded, "but I'm also missing out on Eric and Grandfather. The only way to make that better is to add Anakin in there."

"Next time we'll make it a quartet, just for you," Ben promised. "We attracted a crowd, so I'm sure if you sent out an email, someone could help you out."

"I might try it. And then I might be able to tell you if Tall, Blond and Fangy is a yeller," she said. "Times like this, I wish Artoo was still here full-time."
