Room 313, Saturday afternoon

Jaina didn't tend to sleep in late, but she did today. She started out trying to convince herself that she wasn't sick, then decided that was stupid and obviously she'd just come down with whatever was going around and it wasn't a big deal. She'd just go on like normal.

Which meant she was curled up on her bed trying to go over the latest reports she'd sent for the fourth time, because the fuzzy-headedness meant she comprehended nothing from the first three times.

"But I don't like wallowing. And I can get anything I want by getting up and getting it." Because she was moving.

"Well, if you feel like getting up, you're definitely not sick," John decided.

Now was probably not the time to point out that she'd continued to do downright dangerous stuff while blind or very possibly badly concussed. Besides, she really didn't want to get up. "See? Fine."

"Okay, then I won't treat you like you're sick," he said, making a face at her.

"Thank you," she said, and stuck her tongue out at him because she saw that.

"So you should not be laying in bed in the middle of the afternoon," he said. "Especially fully clothed."

"I'm laying on bed," she clarified. "And too bad. I was being comfortable to go over my work."

"Being comfortable because you don't feel well?"

[solo_sword]

"That, too," she said.

"I thought you were fine?" It was way to easy to use her words against her. He was starting to think she was feverish.

"I am fine. I can still feel kind of icky and go on like a normal person," Jaina reasoned. "It's just a matter of wanting to."

"Weirdo," he said.

"And I deserve that why?" she wondered.

"Because you're weird."

"Yes, but why am I weird?" she asked.

"Because if it was me feeling a little sick, I'd be milking it for all I could get," he said.

"Guys are different like that," Jaina pointed out.

"How so?"

"You try to milk it for all you can get," she said. "I think it's a biological predisposition."

"And girls never would?" he wondered.

"I'm sure some would. But not the ones I know."

John considered this, but it didn't fit the girls he'd known. "I think I'm gonna consider it one of those things that make you you."

"I hardly believe that," Jaina said. "You should have seen my mother after Duro. We had to sedate her so she wouldn't keep fighting and bleed to death. A little cold is nothing."

"Maybe it has something to do with your lifestyle," he suggested. "It's not like any of you ever have real downtime."

"We do," she protested. "Just not lately. ...For two years."
