Flight Shed, Sunday afternoon

Jaina probably shouldn't have been surprised she managed to get permission to use the sim from her grandfather, but she was. And yes, she was a little gleeful at getting back into even simulated flight. Okay, so she kind of missed this sort of thing, and she would take what she could get.

She got down there early, unlocked the door, and waited outside for John.

"Hey, as far as powers go, call me impressed," John said. "And don't even consider going easy on me in the simulator."

She kind of loved hearing that. "Okay," she grinned. "Can't say I didn't warn you."

"I've been fairly warned," he granted. "So, head to head combat?"

"Sure. See you in there," she said, heading to the simulator.

John settled himself into the simulator and prepared his X-wing. "So, what sort of run did you set up?" He asked over the radio.

"I kept it a little competitive," she said. "It's modified off the trench run which requires no explanation. Targets on each side, we start out on opposite sides and try to keep the other from hitting ours first. That okay?"

"Sounds great," he said, looking around the cockpit. "Hopefully, I'll remember how this thing works pretty quickly."

"Do you need a minute?" she asked, making her preparations based almost entirely on habit now, and kind of missing Sparky a little.

"Nah, I was just kidding," John said, finishing his prep work. "Assuming forward is still forward on this one. Or was it back...and up..." he muttered into the headset, totally trying to mess with her.

"If you're serious, it's a wonder you didn't die in class more than Mel did," she said. "Ready then?"

"I don't think anyone could die more than Mel did," John chuckled. "Let's go!"

Starting off at one end of the trench, Jaina sent her X-wing forward, tempted to fire off a warning shot just because, but not following through with it. Still, it was probably pretty clear already by her flying she was really intent on getting to that target.

Figuring defense was his best option, John maneuvered his X-wing into her path and began firing as soon as she got within range. He wasn't an awful shot, but he was kinda rusty with the X-wing.

Jaina fired back two quick shots a second sooner than most people would have been able to, ducking down a little farther out of range, but continuing on her way.

John stuck out his tongue the way he did when he was concentrating really hard, and spun to avoid her return fire. He recovered and sped up to meet her again on the path.

That was a good move. Jaina didn't let herself think any more than that, though, turning her ship onto a 45 degree angle as she sped forward, trying to make herself less of a target while shooting off three shots in quick succession.

Being that he had less of a target than before, John fired off two rounds and flew up over her shooting. His goal was to attempt an attack from above.

And yes, basically forgetting about his own target.

Barely avoiding one of the shots, Jaina put herself into a roll, trying to make it harder for him to hit her, and attempting to get past him, forcing him to follow her to the target.

Cursing a little into the headset, John was forced to swing around and shoot at her tail as he followed her to the target.

Jaina heard that, but it didn't even occur to her to make a comment about it, though she did smile a little. She tilted a little wildly to miss the shot, recovering quickly to shoot once at the target, and miss.

He was so surprised she missed and the game wasn't over, that John failed to shoot at her ship.

Jaina checked her scopes to see exactly where he was, which she knew was bad and she didn't need to do that, and chanced angling herself upward to get in position for a direct shot.

Recovering from his surprise, John sped toward Jaina's ship and fired two shots.

One just clipped her wing because she was trying very hard not to deviate from her course, but she stabilized herself quickly and fired one clear shot to the port.

John almost had time for congratulatory thoughts at clipping Jaina's wing before she made her shot at the target. For some reason, he still couldn't help grinning, despite his clear loss.
