Flight Shed, Sunday afternoon

Jaina probably shouldn't have been surprised she managed to get permission to use the sim from her grandfather, but she was. And yes, she was a little gleeful at getting back into even simulated flight. Okay, so she kind of missed this sort of thing, and she would take what she could get.

She got down there early, unlocked the door, and waited outside for John.

Jaina smiled, patting her own helmet. "Would you rather go head to head or just run something like the trench run together?" she asked.

John stuck his helmet on. "Depends on how competitive you're feeling," he grinned.

"Well, I'm pretty sure I could beat you at this," she said, trying to look serious and failing.

"Meaning I'm not much competition?" John smirked. He didn't know if he was. She'd always done better than him in the class sims.

"Well, I do have the upper hand," she said, not exactly ageeing, but pointing out that very important detail.

"You say that like you have more than just extra training over me," he said.

"Well, experience actually fighting in one," she said. And thinking she might as well give warning, added, "And I might have an added talent or two."

"Experience fighting? Added talent? Now this I want to hear about," John said, fully interested.

"I've seen a few battles with the Rogues already. There's a war going on back home. That's probably the only reason they even considered a sixteen-year-old pilot," she told him. "I don't know how much you know already, but have you heard of Jedi?"

"Wow, that's intense," he said, thinking of her fighting in a war zone.

"If I've heard of Jedi, I don't know what it means."

"Where I come from, the Jedi are kind of a peacekeeping force. A very small one at the moment. We do the fighting if we need to, or in some cases, negotiate to try to keep everyone from blowing each other up," she said. "And it comes with a few extra abilities, which kind of mean I'm learning to anticipate certain things. Like getting a feel for what another pilot's going to do before they do it."

"That's quite an upper hand," he remarked, processing this new information. "Are all of your family members Jedi?"

"Except my dad," she said. "We're kind of known for it, actually. So, now you know."

"Hey, as far as powers go, call me impressed," John said. "And don't even consider going easy on me in the simulator."

She kind of loved hearing that. "Okay," she grinned. "Can't say I didn't warn you."

"I've been fairly warned," he granted. "So, head to head combat?"

"Sure. See you in there," she said, heading to the simulator.

John settled himself into the simulator and prepared his X-wing. "So, what sort of run did you set up?" He asked over the radio.

"I kept it a little competitive," she said. "It's modified off the trench run which requires no explanation. Targets on each side, we start out on opposite sides and try to keep the other from hitting ours first. That okay?"

"Sounds great," he said, looking around the cockpit. "Hopefully, I'll remember how this thing works pretty quickly."

"Do you need a minute?" she asked, making her preparations based almost entirely on habit now, and kind of missing Sparky a little.

"Nah, I was just kidding," John said, finishing his prep work. "Assuming forward is still forward on this one. Or was it back...and up..." he muttered into the headset, totally trying to mess with her.

"If you're serious, it's a wonder you didn't die in class more than Mel did," she said. "Ready then?"

"I don't think anyone could die more than Mel did," John chuckled. "Let's go!"

Starting off at one end of the trench, Jaina sent her X-wing forward, tempted to fire off a warning shot just because, but not following through with it. Still, it was probably pretty clear already by her flying she was really intent on getting to that target.
